"Just One Bad Experience"

Many years ago I traveled to Sparta,Tenn to pick up a few pups...my younger brother also had me pick one up for him...

Back in Texas after a few days my brother loads the 9 week old pup in the back of his truck to take him for a ride and show the pup off...he went about 100 yards and the pup gets up on the fender well and jumps out the moving truck and he rolls down the road...luckily he appears to be ok, physically anyways....

Well the pup turns into a beautiful all purpose dog but is scared to death when loadeded in the bed of any truck...this dog would have to be physically lifted and snapped and he would start drooling and shaking all over...

staging pleasant scenarios (training sessions) can go a long ways and they don't need to be done on a regular basis...I stage 2 or 3 for one thing I want learned and then move on to the next...I do these at a young age...keeping it easy and simple...

to me it is crucial that a pup is trained properly...over the years I have learned that training can be made very simple and easy and the pups will do well...

We want our pups to always trust us and discipline can be given and the pups learn through consistency...with the right discipline the pup will learn that you want the behavior changed and yet he understands you love him so the trust remains strong...to me that is very important...never call the pup in to disciplne him or her...if disciplining the pup is out of reach and you know it then it is better to ignore it and waint until you can control it...

if one bad experience can last a lifetime...then why not a good experience not last a long time???

once my pups learn to like raw meat...i delay a morning feeding...I come home from a hog hunt and have saved the head and the neck is full of meat...the 7-8 week old pups are real hungry...I throw the head in the middle of the yard and let the wind carry the scent to the pups...I sic the pups, hiss and clap my hands and send the pups out of the kennel...because they are very hungry they will pile on and eat fresh hog meat...

because of their hunger it will be an extrao pleasant experience for the pups as well as being let out of the kennel...everything about this session is fun and more fun...plus they are learning to get ahead and hunt with my commands....

I do this 2 or 3 times in hopes that it will stick in their subconscious minds...

the thinking is very simple, and very easy to do when the pups are chomping at the bit to go...
