Posting for a friend. His pup is 5 1/2 months old. Had a real horn on him. But he barks alot in the pen. Has a toner/shocker on him, but he isn't home during the day. He has barked himself out. Barely hear him. He is taking him to.the vet as soon as he can get him in. He is going to put him in a dog cage in the house. Any other suggestions? Pup is already treeing his own coon.

DO NOT USE ANTI-FREEZE! GET A NO BARK COLLAR OR 2 OF THEM THERE ARE SOME OUT THAT SUPPOSEDLY LAST A WEEK OR 2 BETWEEN CHARGES , TRY A RADIO OR I CAN NOT REMEMBER WHO MAKES IT BUT NITE LITE SELLS THEM THEY LOOK LIKE A RADIO BUT EMIT SOME KIND OF ULTRA HIGH FREQUENCY SOUND SO WHEN THE DOG BARKS IN THE KENNEL IT HURTS HIS EARS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. MAYBE TREAT HIM WITH LEMON JUICE AND APPLE CIDER VINEGAR MIXED IN A SYRINGE AND SQUIRT DOWN HIS THROAT TO HELP BRING HIS VOICE BACK. GOOD LUCK

The ultrasonic boxes dont work , they just give off high pitched sound and after a day they figure it out . Use bark collar and low octane food for a while .

FIRST GIVE HIM 2CC YELLOW MUSTARD DOWN THROAT FOR 2 OR 3 DAYS (hope it hasnt went on two long) also put a no bark colar on him.
THE MUSTARD WILL RESTORE IF HASNT BEEN TO LONG, IF ITS BEEN TO LONG IT WILL NOT COME BACK....

The best luck I've had is PREDNISONE. 5MG TABLET
10 days 1 tablet each day.
5 days 1/2 tablet each day.
5 days 1/4 tablet each day.
Always do the complete treatment, even if their voice improves before you finish the 20 day treatment.
You usually can get it from a vet. It is a steroid, not very expensive.
I have had good luck with it

Prednisone and quiet that's hope and hope ! Once pup gets it back if he does he needs to exercise and let run in the evening to run off nervous energy , easier to raise a pair , good luck

None of the above will work if you don't keep him quite it's no different than laryngitis in people.
Word of advice to anyone planning on buying a young pup - get 2 house them together sell or give away the extra when they get old enough to hunt.
Puos don't bark for the heck of it your pup is bored get him a playmate or find a place he can run loose.

Total voice rest whatever it takes to make that happen like all the above said.
I want to add that ive had and seen others have better luck with injectable prednisone vs the pills.

Get rid of it!
If thay bark so much that there voice goes out , it’s the owners fault for keeping it.
Anything that keeps me and my wife up at night doesn’t stay at my house.

The first thing, is to make him, stop barking. Then give him 1.0 cc of la 200, which is oxytetracycline, down his throat, twice a day, + a squirt of mustard, twice a day. Use at your own, risk, but i have not had any problems, with useing, these two things, and my dog's mouth was louder, than it was before. I give it 12 days.

He has been put on Prednisone and a bark collar. He is also housed in the shop in a cage while he is at work. Vet doesn't believe there is any permanent damage.
