Dog food ? With a twist

I know everyone likes seeing dog food threads posted daily. So I thought I would ask a ? I’ve most seen. What are peoples daily cost for feed per dog? And what do you think is a reasonable cost for feeding said dog should be. I see a lot of people saying they would feed xyz feed but the cost per bag is too high. Another ? I have is do you know how much feed you’re actually feeding? I know a lot say there feeding a half of a coffee can or something of the like. How many actually weigh the feed to know how much feed is actually in a cup of feed. Dry dog food doesn’t weigh like liquid and depending on the feed a cup may weigh 3oz or it may weigh 6oz.

Just curious you said the beagle gets 6oz and the big hounds get 16oz. Did you initially weigh the feed out to determine how much feed would go in whatever scoop you use to transfer to the dogs bowl? Do you know what it cost you a day to feed each dog? What do you think is a reasonable cost to feed each dog a day? There’s always the same dog food questions posted and I’m curious what everybody’s opinion is on this subject. I see post all the time about people would like to feed a particular feed but the cost per bag is more than they want to pay.

Feed

No Sir I did not weigh to begin with I've just adjusted over time and watching my dogs weight, I weighed it just out of curiosity I have no idea how much it cost per day, I'm prolly like most and tried all kinds of feed I settled on Puriina because it's easy to find and feeds the same every bag I tried Victor but when it went to over 40$ per bag I quit, my hounds are not poor and in good flesh winter and summer, I can't stand a poor looking hound, hope this helps.....

Does anyone use the feeding amount table on the back of the bags of dog food? It will give you a starting point, it will need to be adjusted per dog though.

I feed pro plan 26/18 all life stages. And I switched my old dog over to the bright mind senior food. I go through a bag every 5-6 weeks per dog. The young dog on the pro plan gets 2 and 1/2 cups a day. And the old dog gets 2 cups of the bright mind. And the bright mind does work pretty good if anyone is curious.

This post got me thinking, so I broke out the calculator, figured how many dogs I have, how long a bag lasts and how much it costs and came up to roughly 38 cents a day per dog feeding Purina dog chow and being a Purina Pro club member.

I look at the labels on the feed and see how many cups they recommend along with the kcals per cup. I also look and see what a actual 8oz measuring cup of the feed weighs. I actually weigh it out too check so I know. Some of these feeds that are cheaper Per bag cost more to feed than some of the higher cost feed does.

What do people think is a reasonable cost to feed a dog a day?

Feed

Johnny Reb, I agree about the feed sometimes being cheaper, but I also will add some products do not( feed like the bag reads) I know this may sound strange but there is no real feed stores close to me anymore , after the sport mix dealer folded a few years back may best bet now is the farm store at present, availability is big on my list for feed,I generally buy 200 lbs at a time, what you feeding? Thanks
