Shot, our mayhaws have come and gone this year. I picked 4.5 gals off my trees. That's crazy yalls aint come in yet. I was in Ava, Mo this weekend and all cast were hunt Mulberry Trees, Our Mulberrys have been long gone down here. I did talk to a fellow that knows you, and had nothing but good to say about you. Cheyenne Cummings. He sure is one fine, friendly fellow right there. Talked to him a good while before I found out who we were talking to.

Hey Dave, Big Country's biscuits werent in Tar's poll but I'm gonna try them too. Sound good. Just don't have any idea what a mayhaw is. Don't think we have them in this neck of the woods and if we do they must be called something else. I'll settle for pear perserves.

I had never heard if them either, but googled the name. Seems to be a tart fruit in the cranberry family that makes good jelly. I believe Tommys biscuits would taste good with about anything! Lol. Dave

Big Country I have made the biscuits with sprite before but never that much butter but they sound delicious. One of my favorites is Angel biscuits made with a package of yeast. For hunts the easiest that still taste homemade are the already cooked in the box at Sam's. Your supposed to put them in the oven to brown up but I fill my big roaster lined with foil works perfect and gives me time to make homemade gravy. Gonna help an Amish lady with hunt breakfast this weekend, I wonder what kind she has in mind but I doubt they are on the list lol.

Homemade BlackBerry jam is the best. It will make most any biscuit taste good.

I can't believe that those pesky moderators have left a biscuit thread on the main forum for so long. Tarbaby must really have some pull now. He has made a complete turnaround from banned to Golden Boy in just a few weeks.

Biscuits and coonhunting go hand-n-hand. Imagine if no hunts served biscuits and gravy, my guys here think it's a requirement!
Btw, blackberries are turning.

When I was young, I thought that my grandmother made the best biscuits in the whole world. But when I got a little older I realized that it was the hand churned butter and homemade BlackBerry jam she put on them that made them so good. That and the fact that we never had to fix them ourselves. She insisted on buttering them and putting on the jam herself. All we had to do was sit down and eat them. At 70 yrs old and with my pitiful memory, I still remember those mornings sitting at her old painted kitchen table eating her biscuits.

For those of you who are watching your waist line, I wouldn't follow Big Contry's recipes. He's not known for fat free, heart healthy cooking.

My Mama makes the best biscuits there is. I have tried and tried to duplicate them for 36 years. She has shown me over and over, but I just can’t get it. She has a bowl that she keeps her flour in, with an icecream bucket lid for a cover. I’m 56 , and she has used this same bowl as long as I can remember. She will take a spoon and make a like pond in the middle of the flour, put some Crisco shortening, and milk in it, and mix it together. Take the dough ball out, and the rest of the flour aint even touched. She will take that dough ball and choke off smaller balls then mash them in to a black iron skillet. Best biscuits ever. First thing she ask you when you walk in is, "Do you want me to bake a pan of Biscuits" But this is a picture of mine.
