Are Coonhunters the dumbest people alive?

As I just got finished for the night I got to thinking.

What intelligent human would walk through the woods chasing a dog?

Crossing logs over creeks, crawling on your hands and knees through briars, up hills

Sneaking through yards, being dropped off to run in and get a dog hoping not to be caught.

Sweating furiously in the summer, freezing in the winter

Fighting mosquitoes and snakes

Swearing you are not going the next night after being out all night trying to gather a dog just to be ready the next night

Arguing with the wife you really haven’t hunted the last 45 nights and you did go to the family function first before you went hunting so that don’t count.

Should we all not get a crazy check at the first of the month? I couldn’t imagine not coon hunting. It’s who I am and what I do. Been doing it 35 years and it was as fun tonight as it was the first time.

You sound pretty sane to me, but remember I am a coonhunter and have been for over 50 years. Lol. Seriously, we all have asked that question many times over the years and most of us already know the answer-YES! Like you said, that is just who we are-coonhunter and I can't imagine not being one. My hunting buddy is 80 years young and lives to coonhunt. Dave

It could be worse. You could be chasing a small white ball all day trying to put it into a hole too far to see! Your walking a big circle out in the direct sun slowly roasting your skin with harmful ultraviolet rays. You are also hitting those little white balls into the water and hazards and losing them. Not to mention the occasional brand new club that is bent on a tree, ground, or finds its way into the pond. Then on top of that you are paying for the aggravation to do so.

Now that is just plain crazy if ya ask me.

Going to a Casino and gambling everything you work for ranks much higher on the dumb list to me. Chasing a little ball around on a cart drinking beer doesn't rank high on the IQ scale. I can go on but most will get my point.

Allen,

I didn't even mention that I know 2 people who literally put an eye out with one of those little white balls. A person has to be careful hitting those nasty little things out of the trees. Physics isn't always kind.

You will notice that I didn't use any names. I am the only one on our family vacation that fishes instead of playing that insane game.lol

It's ok to throw my name around Larry. I wouldn't mind, as I'm one of those idiots who loves golf and don't mind saying so. No scratches or broken bones to report here.

Dennis, I agree with your first statement but your second one is false. lol. I'll assume you've not received an invite to play with us dummies this weekend in IA. Your hound better win on Thursday night or I'll be questioning the owners IQ. Hahaha.

Dumb-No self destructive-possibly

Some of the smartest people I have ever met are coon hunters, myself excluded.

The last time spent the evening on a golf course I got my limit of squirrels My friend no longer works at that particular country club, or I'd invite you out for a round.

Some coon-hunters are also comedians.

Old dirt road late at night with no cell phone signal nothing but the moon, stars, only sounds the crickets and frogs with a hound bawling somewhere off in the distance. Coonhunters may be the sanest people.

Thank goodness, I don't chase little white balls around. But I enjoy going coon hunting, investing $ at the casino, have horses (eat $, crap work) and have been married to an avid hunter for almost 40 yrs. Call me almost crazy!

I agree with you, there's just something wonderful about listening to a dog trailing that soothes one's mind. You eagerly waiting on that big locate bark that says come on in, I've got him. Would hate to think, I had had never been a part of something that brings great rapport with our dogs. Dave

My hunt tonight wasn't real soothing lol. Two dogs blew up bayed on something 50 yards in front of us. I was thinking dang porky til I heard it woofin and blowing at the dogs and knew it was a bear and it wasn't runnin. We tried call them away from it but little red started treein. I start towards him( reluctantly) and I get my light on the dog and could see the big blob hanging off the side of the tree about 10-12 feet up. Was yelling at the dog but I don't think he heard me. I got into about 20 feet from the tree and three times the bear dropped about a foot and stopped. whoofin at me now. Only 8-9 feet up now and this **** redbone thinks he can reach him. He's still jumping trying grab him by the ass lol. I crawled in within 8 feet from the base to get my hands on dogs collar. I snapped leash on him and started inching backwards and boom that sucker lands on the ground in front of me and hauls ass down thru the woods. At least 250 maybe 300 lbs

I've never played golf before but for a few looong moments tonight I was thinking chasing the little white ball be pretty soothing right now lol. Dang Redbone !
