Rule Question

Ch cast. Dog struck in, dog gets treed but not called before hunt time runs out, go retrieve treed dog and he’s under a possum handler said you can’t scratch him under the new rules? Was this in the new rule changes an why??

No change

You couldn't have scratched him before. There's a lot of ways a ch can be under a possum and not get scratched. I don't agree with it but it is the rules.

Safe under a possum trash

1. Treed but not declared when hunt time is up. If dog is not treed you delete strike points the second time is up and nothing else can be scored as far as plus or minus.

2. Perviously scored tree. Can't do anything with it, it's considered a dead tree and can't be scored on at all.

3. Not sure on this one I'll have to read the new rules but was if the judge had arrived and than the dog came in you couldn't but I'm not sure on that one now.

I understand plus/minus but Is a NtCh dog scratched for treeing a possum after hunt time?

Whether it was December 31st or January 1st, the dog would not have been scratched under that scenario. Nothing changed. The only portion of the rule that changed is the fact that off game MUST now be seen, which basically only applies to running "unseen" deer that you may have scratched a dog for under previous rule.

Allen, what if a dog is trailing a coyote and you "hear" the coyote? Can you scratch the dog for trailing or molesting off game?

Ch cast, dog A and B are struck in, Dog A trees with 10 seconds left in the hunt and dog B didn’t get called in time and hunt is over, both dogs treeing under a possum? Who gets scratched?

Only one treed in

Only dog a. Same situation except a coon only one to get plus points is dog a. The only points that count when time is up is who ever is treed.
