Worst case scenario you send into Garmin and they rebuild for a reasonable fee. Just had one of mine dine. Four years old and developed issues. One week turn around. $117 fir a brand new rebuilt model.

They give you 2 options.
1 send your unit in and pay $117 will take a few days to get the refurbished alpha
You will not get the 1 you send in back.
2 contact garmin and pay them $234 they will immediately send out a refurbished unit and when they receive your alpha will credit $117 back to your account

.

What happens when you plug it into charger or computer. It should come on with the symbol showing charging and if you put it in the base station mode it should operate. I would try the above and then another battery. Few obvious questions. Does the push botton switch fell like it is doing anything. Are the battery connections on the handheld and on the battery clean and not broken.

My question is if you put it back on the charger now. Will it come on? If it does than borrow a buddies battery and see what happens.
