Most people have a WSM (Weber Smokey mountain) or drum/UDS (upright drum smoker), many people have offsets (do your homework if you go this route), and probly a third of the guys on here have electric cabinets, pellet smokers, or propane. For your first get a WSM or drum. If you get a drum don't get a Pit Barrel cooker. I don't understand how those have gotten as popular as they are. Bullet and drum smokers like the WSM or big poppa DIY kit are cheap and still make a fantastic product which is why they're good entry level units - you won't outgrow them quickly. A good quality offset tends to be a second or third purchase as they're much more expensive but make up for it in volume output and temp consistency (thicker steel) among other things. I don't know why anyone uses pellet, electric, or propane for anything other than convenience.
