Everyone that I have seen was inconsistent. They have good stretches and bad. They don't have the endurance. They can look good for a couple of nights but you can't push them hard for a couple of weeks to get them in shape. They give out instead of getting in shape.

Any of you guys found a remedy to give lymes infected dogs temporary relief in order to hunt them at a large event several days in a row?

Ive used 30 day doses of doxycycline.

My female seems to not take heat well at all and gets arthritic like after a night of hunting.

Rimadyl for the pain, prednisone for the arthritis. Both only for short term use. Google "arthritis". There are several different long term NSAIDS you can use now. Just check their side effects.

I've been working on an experimental treatment for Chronic Lyme Disease in dogs and so far it's been very effective. The two dogs we've tried it on so far have both gained weight back and are acting normal. It's just a matter of time now to see if they can sustain this after treatment stops. I'll keep you updated on my Ask the Vet thread I updated lately.

Biggest issue with Borrelia bacteria is that they get trapped in the Central Nervous System and very few antibiotics reach high levels in the CNS that will kill it effectively. Secondly they develop porins and lots of them which is how they draw in nutrients and they have developed an adaptive mechanism in the face of antibiotics which makes it really hard to treat with one single antibiotic. The develop blebs in the face of antibiotics and can hide out in the central nervous system.

More to come!

I treated a female for lymes, I believe she probably had it when I purchased her as a 6 month old pup, she was always poor looking and wouldn't hunt. After treatment she started hunting and went on to do a pretty decent job only to start having the ups and downs you fellas are talking about. My vet prescribed me rymadyl and that seems to help the most. I also have been giving her conjointant supplement daily to lubricate her joints. She has not tested positive for lymes since the first time I had her tested, or any other tick disease but my vet says she has arthritis because of the lymes.
