Keeping it simple.....as I see it.
I was a BBCHA member for several years back in the late 80's and early 90's.
The majority, if not all, of its founding members were from the Deep South and southwest. Men that were fanciers of the Vaughn, Jocasee Valley, OO Grant, Smokey River, early Uchtman, Bill Andersons Singing River dogs Guy Ormiston's stuff, Mountain Musics Blue and Blaze, Troy Rankin's dogs and many others. These guys enjoyed the fellowship they shared as much as they did the hounds they had in tow. They were independent and not sanctioned by any registry. I attended (2) of the annual meetings. The 1st in 1988 hosted by TC Jones in Duckhil, MS. It was a blast! The second was in 1992 at Chickisaw State Park in West Tennessee. I thoroughly enjoyed these folks and their dogs. Several of these fellows competition hunted but their dogs were 1st and foremost their hunting dogs. I think the binding thread that held that organization together (and hopefully still does) was the fellowship they shared around good honest to goodness hunting dogs!
I don't know much about BBOA except it was sanctioned by UKC and it always seemed to me that the majority of the members were active in the competition hunts. Lots of Noethern Blue Hammer enthusiasts in that assoc. in those days as I recall. They seemed to be more promoters of the competition hunts and pursuing a UKC title in front of their dogs names. I know there were many good folks in that organization then and I'm sure that still holds true today. At that time it seemed to me the most of BBOA's membership was located geographically above the Mason-Dixon Line. That's just my own observations and not intended to suggest anything different.
