Yes years ago I had a big 90 pound male I called "Snab". He was gonna make a fine hound, well on his way. He got bit in the pen, and we never did find the snake that bit him. It killed him within a day. The vet measured the fang marks and they were 1-3/4'' apart.
I moved my kennel to where I live now, not long after that.
We figured it had to be a timber rattler, but we don't see very many around our place. Mostly smaller ground rattlers, copperheads and moccasins.
Again I sure hate to hear this for ya, it's a tough loss!
