A great day for the future of our sport! A very well thought out program that recognizes the accomplishments of every youth handler at every UKC Hunting Beagle or Performance Pack event. "Honor to whom honor is due!"

Separate programs for Hunting Beagle and Performance Pack. Some areas have more hunting beagle events than Performance pack. With separate programs the youth in performance pack have the opportunity for acknowledgment of their accomplishments among other PP youth handlers.

Junior handler is not required to own the dog they handle in hunt or show.
-Opens up the opportunity for recognition even if the child is not listed as an owner.
-A great opportunity for those who do not currently show but would like their dog to be seen on the bench. Letting a junior show the dog is a real win/win opportunity. The dog will get to be seen and the child will get more hands on experience with a hound.

Points earned for both Bench and Show. In a Total Dog registry it is awesome to recognize a junior handler's accomplishments in both. This program does exactly that. Because it is being done within the scope of the beagle hunt programs, show points can not exceed hunt points. According to the First Strike program design the youth who run dogs in the hunts are those who will be rewarded. Those who participate in both will have an advantage.

Junior and senior age divisions.

Kudos to Allen and all those at UKC involved in developing this UKC wide First Strike Program. A great deal of thought has gone into designing this program for our youth. It is also a huge effort to track and publish the standings every month. The UKC commitment to the youth of our sport is awesome for the future of UKC and for the beagle breed as a whole. Dan M

With all due respect, credit for this and working out the details of this youth series includes the following folks.

First, Dan Mazalic of Ohio forwarded a UKC youth handler proposal for such a series. The end result is basically a tweaked version of his proposal. Thank you Dan for your contributions!

On behalf of the Performance Pack format, Jonathan Hayes, JT Berry, and Andy Romack (Judge's Committee) also had a hand in with ideas and suggestions to make it work for PP.

Joe Brown was also "Halfway" involved with his input and approval on the part of the Hunting Beagle format.

I'm tickled with the outcome and appreciate everyone's input!

Thank you Allen!

Wasn't hard for me! Wrote the first one 15 yrs. ago! Our daughter was a child and now we have a grandchild. LOL Just kept submitting it. Had to think through the addition of PP. I like the way you did that!

Bottom line is you are the man Allen that got it handled and I am forever grateful that it is a go! A huge THANK YOU to everyone at UKC involved with the decision and implementation of the First Strike Series.

I am grateful to NHBA for setting a great example with their youth program. And as far as I know Performance Pack has a youth program. Those programs, plus a UKC wide all inclusive program, makes for a bright future for the youth of our sport.
