this happened on a hunt this past weekend on a split tree situation

Dogs A,B, C are declared treed in that order with Dog C declared split treed.

1. We handle DOG B at his tree, being the sole dog there.
2. We walk towards Dogs A,C and C is milling and Dog A moves and is re-treed and has 5min running.
3. We walk back to DOG B to score his tree.
4. Dog C starts treeing with DOG B (already handled) before we arrive back
5.DOG C is handled
6. We plus up DOG B and lead DOG's B, C to DOG A's tree

7. DOG A is plussed up.
8. DOG's A,B, C are led away with DOG D still out holding a strike position.


Does DOG B already being handled at his tree before DOG C arriving make a difference at all in scoring, when DOG C started treeing before we got back the tree the 2nd time to shine and score.

If dog declared treed, after five minutes has
elapsed no additional dog can be declared
treed at that particular tree but if they come in
to tree will get minus on track and nothing on
tree if coon is seen.

Not sure if this helps as you didn't state any time between all of this happening.

about two minutes.

we waited the 5mins about 250 yards away. upon walking in we found DOG B by himself on his closed tree. We handled him, and walked another 75 yards to where the other two dogs were "treeing" to handle them. Finding DOC C milling and DOG A moving and re-treed. I would say it took us no more than two minutes from the time we left DOG B to the time we returned to score his tree. And while we were shining DOG B's tree, DOG A's tree that he was re-treed on was winding down

But while walking back to DOG B, DOG C covered him.

My question is, since DOG B was initially already handled...does it play a factor on how to score DOG C

Dog C is minused 125 for leaving his tree, and then also minused his strike also because a coon was seen. That fact the dog was handled shouldnt change the strike being minused because a coon is seen.



(b) No dog to receive minus points for coming into tree after Judge arrives unless a coon is seen and the dogs treeing are awarded plus points

Nick, you may be thinking too much into it. Dog C is simply considered as a dog that came in to B's tree "after the judge arrived". Rule 5(b) will apply to that dog.

How long "after the judge arrived" is a moot point and plays no part. Until you've scored the tree and walked away, it's an "after the judge arrived" situation. Once scored and moved away from the tree, it becomes a "previously scored tree".

Jeremy Kidd has the right answer, other than I'm not sure what position C had on the tree he or she left.

C was declared split so he is correct on the minus 125
