need help breaking a dog from barking in the kennel

I've got a 2 year old male that I just recently purchased. The guys I got him from said you had to keep a bark collar on him until you got ready to go hunting or he will bark himself out in the kennel. I know the dog will tree a coon ive seen that but when you first start hunting till he figures out he aint goi g to get shocked he acts scared to bark. Is there anyway I can break him from barking or is it to late. I've heard a bark collar will ruin a dog. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Road

If your in a position to road that dog for exercise it helps. Start him off at a mile or two and increase as you see he's able to go further. Work your way up to 6 or 8 miles a day when you see hes able. Obviously hunting him hard will help too. But I believe there's a lot of benefit to reading. Good luck

Bark collars don’t ruin dogs. Ignorant users of bark collars can though.

True. I have the gift of suspicion though and suspect somewhere along the way when the dog was first introduced to the collar by it’s previous owner(s) he was to impatient to follow manuf.’s instructions regarding its use.

Sort of like introducing a training collar to a dog the 1st time. How many dogs have been ruined by an owner who upon receiving the collar charges it up, throws it on the dog and then goes to find a deer or whatever to run?

I have my dogs wear a dummy collar or deactivated one for at least a week when initially introducing them to it before I start correction. During that time frame I mess with it, take it off and put back on numerous times so they are accustomed to it and forget it’s even on them.

Likely to late on this dog. Maybe Wild Willy knows what to do?

You yell for him to shut his d**n mouth about two seconds before the 20 ga. shotgun blast loaded with bird shot its his ass end. It will take a time or two, but if he is worth keeping, he will learn to stay silent, if not, he may not be worth any more effort. They learn here or they leave. Good one or not. I hate a barking dog and will not tolerate it under any circumstances.

hay and rubber works every time. when he starts barking ,go to the door and yell '' HEY'' and when he don`t hush take about two feet of a rubber water hose and pick him up by the collar and every time you hit him yell hey.bout two trips is all he can stand. from then on just yell hey when he barks. if he don`t stop,,,, give him a refresher course of the hey and rubber.

This is the best method I ever used. It won't work if your dog is in a large yard. If he's in a small Kennel, attach a mashing machine solenoid valve to his kennel and put a nozzle on it to wet the dog. Connect a water hose to the solenoid valve. Run an extension cord from the solenoid into your house. Every time he barks plug in the extension. After about 4 times he won't even get wet. When the solenoid clicks he'll be in the dog house before the water comes out. It requires a little time and expense but it works and doesn't make your dog shy or afraid of you.

Every method mentioned should assist in making a dog not bark in the kennel. The key is to stay consistent. A no bark kennel means absolutely no bark. I have buddies that complain about their dogs barking, and when we are standing there, you can't talk for the barking. They will usually say something like I don't care if they bark when Im standing here or at feed time. Day or night, rain or shine, if they bark in the kennel correct it and it won't take long to fix the issue. Good luck!

bark breaking

Loved the beating methods if he'll bark himself out without a bark collar he should have been broke or put down if you start beating him now it won't do much good but chances are you'll ruin him either leave the collar on or cut your losses and put him down hope you didn't have to pay for him

I know there are some but I've never seen a barking idiot that was worth keeping and putting up with.
