Opening night has come and gone. Last night we took Horn and and our 5 month old male Spike. First dump Horn got in there about 500 yards and struck and treed quick, a persimmon tree and guess what? Second dump Horn hit and Spike wanted to go but just did not know to go or come back, Horn treed and a big old den. Third dump Spike went with Horn and they struck a track about 425 yards and treed in a brush pile in some cut over timber at about 700 yards. Spike ran and treed in the brush pile and was getting after it, Horn bailed out as he knows better! Pretty happy with Spike on that dump. Last dump Horn hit about 250 yards and Spike put in with him and they treed and had one around 575 yards. Once spike got the puppy out of him he did alright. Spike was a little skeptic about the UTV and hauling of him in the dog box and the UTV but that will be cured pretty fast. Like hunting pups and seeing improvement. We had did drags with Spike and did one turn loose and he did real well on them, he is very active young one!

Here is a half brother to Horn that is 5 months old, Bubba and Misfire. He has just been out a few times and is starting to run and tree. We had a good one for minute last night! Tied Horn back and used CB's and got him to walk down, seen it and Spike went nuts, Spike has a loudmouth on him as well. Spike thought he had it LOL! Coon ran right back up a little treed right beside where they just treed, kept Horn back and let him tree and rolled it out dead this time. Could not ask for more for a 5 month old, JMO.

We have Horn and Spike out tonight and having a hard time finding a woods without deer hunters. Try to keep peace and not hunt around them. First dump Horn and Spike treed a den and second dump they treed with a coon, good track and Spike got to run and tree with Horn. Third time out and two coons, not bad for 5 months, JMO. Hope to get to make at least one more dump!

Not one of our better hunts last night. We did not hunt very long but we did get some good tracks but either hit a den of the ground. All of the tracks ran alt least 600 plus yards. Would have loved to have got one out to Spike as he did a nice job on the one.

So far tonight so, so! First drop Horn and Spike treed a Den. Second dump they hit read hot and drove one about 450 yards thru a corn field not picked and another den tree. Third dump we hit hot again and slammed one about 100 yards on a little tree along the river, on the other side. I dropped it out for them and let me tell you they got worked over, blood everywhere, CB's will give them a little more fight! Spike dove in head first and got more than he wanted but he stayed in until the end. Called Horn one time and he came right too me, took a little longer for Spike. Spike is catching on and sure gives his best, just turned 6 months old and running and treeing on every tree, little improvement is all I ask!

Spike and Horn on a chase about 900 yards through a corn field not picked and creek and had the meat when we got there on a branch off the creek. Real proud of Spike tonight on this one, one of our better chases. Coons really hitting on the standing corn fields we are hitting.

So far tonight we have treed in the ground once after about 425 yards, treed one den and one coon on a very tall sycamore tree which does not happen very often. Last dump we made Horn and Spike was running a bad tack and the yotes came in real close, too close for comfort so we turned on their lighted collars gathered the hounds up pretty quick. We have seen more hunters tonight than we have seen several years, two hunters one place and they had not done anything, and three more guys with 4 hounds and they had not treed a coon either. We thought it would be a good night but this time of the year you never know. Corey did not like my driving tonight, he though ol dad was going to get her hung up back in the middle of know where but she pulled on out, still could not drive to the tree as the ditch was a little to big this time! So we popped it out from the UTV.

We took Spike out on a Turn loose by himself. We took the coon about 100 yards from the truck and cut it loose. We then got Spike out of the box and as we walked him up closer to the track he was going wild so we cut him and he ran it and caught it on the ground on the other side of the little patch, can not believe the coon did not take a tree in the little patch of woods we cut him in, thought he could make it to the next woods but that did not happen. Spike caught him and was getting after it and finally made it too a small tree and not very high, shook it back out and Spike killed it. For just turning 7 months old he has some spunk. Next one we will make sure it has a longer lead time as we feel he has the idea. He is running and treeing but trying to give some confidence by himself.

So far tonight we have had one short chase and a den and the next two dumps we had outstanding chases with the meat. The two hard running ones is what I like to see during this time of the year.

Here in the great state of Indiana is currently is 62 degrees. Between now and tomorrow morning they say it will drop down to 34 degrees. Man the coons should move prior to this front moving in as it then call for snow. All have have to do is try to stay dry as is a wet mess right now from all the rain and high water.

Hunted last night with just Horn. Made 4 dumps and not bark. Kind a dishearting but, we look at it like this. At least he did not run junk All night like some. Been leaving Spike up so not to discourage his hunt and get him running junk. Would love too have some of 4 or 5 coons nights on him! Tracks very hard to come by right now around hear.

Well I got the hounds wormed out with Interceptor plus, Simparica for fleas and ticks and Last but not least I feel the best, Seresto collars. We are due to get some more bad weather coming in tonight and wanted the hounds done. I like to get them off everything for a couple months and give thier system a break. Done it for years and have no heart worms or other issues. Cheap insurance, plus a lot less expensive than a big vet bill.

Corey took Horn and Spike out and did pretty good for not being out for a while. I had a total knee replacement and Corey has been busy helping me so the hounds have taken a back seat for a while. They got a little warm but did make two trees with coons and one den. Photo Bucket did a update and having issues so can't load pictures for a while.
