Look"in good!

Put the smack down on both dog and coons Jason! It's always nice to be able roll one out on a young dog that has done a nice job and is deserving.

Kink had to go 905 yds through some ruff county to get this coon treed.Saturday night.

Friday wasn't much to brag about. I turned loose at 2:30. It wasn't good we couldn't get on anything good. We ended up making 2 trees both was slick. I pulled him off the last one at 7 o'clock.

first $$$$kc hunt

well wouldn't you know it I draw the dog that is leading the state race this year. I have hunted with her a lot and she is tuff. kink took 2nd strike and they bumped around on that track for about 3o minutes then kink located a couple of time and I put him on the card. he sounded good till we started in to him. then other dog started treeing really good. get to the tree and kink is running around with his head up winding. so he gets minus then he starts treeing on another tree 5 ft from the other dog. we find the other dogs tree. so I tree kink and walk a minute and cut other dog into the state leading gyp. go back to kinks tree other dog is back on his same tree. we circle kinks tree. im out so I withdraw with 10 minutes left. state leading gyp gets treed. other dog goes back to his tree for a 3rd time. he gets scatched. gyps tree gets circled and she wins. kink had it to win and screwed it up. age and experience caught up with him tonight. he will be fine. he is only 15 months old and we was hunting against 3 and 4 year old dogs. that is my excuse and im sticking to it.

I hope we get to go to the fall round up nothing for sure yet.

Boys it is the dreaded persimmon tree time of the year. I don't ever remember treeing a coon in one. Kink looked terrible slick tree after slick tree.

well we treed a coon last night but he looked pitfull doing it. I seen the coon sitting up and watching kink on the garmin he was all around it but not saying anything. finally I got tired of sitting there and went in to check him out. when kink seen me he decides to start treeing. the coon was up a persimmon tree and I think out of all the years I have hunted this was the first persimmon tree that I have seen a coon in. he has been a little loose on some trees so I worked him on that. tried to get my pup out of big britches and hat creek Katie to tree on it but I guess he isn't ready yet. I need to get off my lazy butt and catch me a coon to show him. he hasn't ever seen a live one so maybe that thing growling and jumping at him will get the juices flowing

Be good to see you again Jason. Ole Kink can give some of these Ohio wood lot coons the what for again! When you get settled in, you or Wayne give me a holler when you've got some plans nailed down.

Safe Travels,
Vic

Me and kink spent 2 weeks up in southeast Ohio. We had a good time thanks to some good friends and great guys. Now to the hunting part. We hunted hard and I mean hard. We didn't do much good but did manage to look at a few coons. Boy was I ready to get back home.

Jason, it was great to see you again & chase some ole potlicking hounds around for a spell. Speaking of potlickers, mine could have looked worse, but I sure wished he would have looked a tad better than he did . Hindsight, I should have talked you & Wayne into hitting a couple of those woodlots you & I hit last time you were up. We were only about 10-15 minutes away from them. Seems I always have more poor hunts than good ones on that state ground. Even though those ole coons get well exercised, it may have more to do with my lack of dog power .... or most likely a sorry owner who needs to hunt his dogs more instead of whining about lack of dog power

Glad to hear you made it back in one piece. Be sure & pester those ole Alabama coons every chance you get with Kink!

Have a good one,
Vic

after my trip to Ohio for two weeks and hunting a couple of times after I got home I really didn't want to turn a dog out. for the ones that knows me,knows it must be bad if I get to that point. we finally got us a good rain this week so I thought I would give it a shoot last night. went to the national forest where the coons are thin. first drop I cut KINK and SARGE down the holler they both struck and was headed down the creek. Kink was opening up the best I have heard him in a long time on this track. then I heard him come on the tree with a good locate. so i dig my gun out and start to him. i tie Sarge and Kink is hammering that tree now. didn't take long to find that ringtail. i petted them up real good and told them to look out cause he is coming down. got him out and Kink bails in on him and a cut Sarge loose and he was like what in the world is going on. well he eased in there to investigate and that coon nailed him! he got out of there quick. second drop they got on a stinkin deer! Sarge got ran off left. had to go in there and call him out from under a bluff. spent 45 mins driving around to where i last heard Kink. when i found him he done got off the deer and found him a tree to get on but if the conn was there i couldn't find him.

Put Kink in a UKC hunt last night.. He was first on the two trees we made with coons in them. But never could get a good strike and he made a mistake and got some minus. That caused me to make a stupid call. It is amazing what a difference the change in weather and the rain we finally got makes. And I love a dog you can call on his locate. I was treeing him before he got done with it. We will give it another try another day. I had a great time on this cast. It was a fight to the end.

Put kink in a acha hunt last night . There was just 3 dogs they left hard and got struck pretty quick.2 dogs got treed and I could hear kink in there but he wasn't treed. He hit up a few times so I treed him to. That was a mistake cause he hushed. We get there and he is smelling around so I handle him. The 2 dogs treed was split very close together on persimmon trees. It didn't take long to see they was slick. One of the men says I see the coon it is up the tree I leashed kink to. I have never in my life seen that done. The black dog withdrew and we cut the other two. They get struck and the English dog gets treed on a den and kink is there when we get there but not treeing. I need to work on him about if he is going to commit to a tree he needs to stay right or wrong. And if he don't think its there he needs to go on and find it his self. Don't worry so much what the other ones are doing!!! Cut him by his self on the way home and he made a circle tree but I believe it was slick.

I had some company with me last night and I have to say that they was better lookin and smelled better than anybody I have ever been hunting with. It was my daughters. We cut Kink and Sarge down the holler. They swung around and hit the road. So we went and caught them up and tried it again. They got in there about 400 yrds before they opened. They wasn't opening to good then Kink located and we headed down to them. He was across the creek and on a tree that had fell against a bluff wall. So I guess the coon got away on top of the bluff. We didn't turn loose till late cause we had to wait on one of the girls to get off work but I really wanted to show them a coon and to give my dogs one to. So against my better judgement I turned the dog down the creek. Dogs didn't go far then I heard Sarge open a time or two then Kink. they sounded like they was having a tuff time with it. Kink got treed and lord have mercy I found out why they had gotten in a bunch of blowed down timber from a storm we had. Never got the coon to look so I don't know if he had him or not. Sure enjoyed the girls going with me even if they talk to much and I hope they go back with me soon.

went with a friend last night. both dog made a persimmon tree which was slick. then his gyp treed a possum. kink was hanging around but never would commit to it. I gave him a good scolding and he left. both of them got back together and went out of hearing. drove around and they was treed right up against a mans trailer. boy I hate when they do that never know whats going to come to the door. lucky for us he was nice about it and told us to knock it out. never did see it but went we was loading the dogs up the coon looked at us. called it a night. time is fixing to change so we either got more time to hunt and a chance to get in the bed at a decent time. don't know which I like the most. my last collar messed up on me last night so it looks like I will be taking some time off until I get them fixed. anybody want to send me a new collar jus get ahold of me and I will give you my address.

went for a round last night with a few boys. it wasn't that good of a hunt. first tree was a slick. then I don't know what they got after cause they had it sounding good not to finish the track at a tree. third turn loose was a big den tree. sure wish my tracking collars would get here so I can do some one on one work on kink.

I feel like I haven't been hunting in 3 months. finally got my collars back and they are wonderful. I cut kink and sarge last night down the creek they wheeled around and struck trailed up the other side of the holler and kink located. got to the tree and it was a slick persimmon tree. cut them off that and they struck at about 500 yards. I headed back to the truck to drive around. by the time I got to my truck they was treed at 800 yards. man he sounded good letting it roll out. got to the tree and started beating on it and stepped back and seen coon going up. I lost him and couldn't get him to look. well I feel like I haven't been doing my part and I was bound and determined to get this coon to them. I bet I looked 45 mins and gave up 2 or 3 times before I found him again. hung him up for my sarge pup and he barked at it as good as I have seen him so far. drove down the road and cut them and they got after some trash and did a good job on it. lol. rounded them up and they hunted for a mile and never did any good.

The other night Kink went 2 for 3 and looked really good. Played with my Sarge pup a little and got him barking at it ok I guess. Last night wasnt so hot. It was like the coons havent been down. Kink got in there 100yards. I could tell he was trying to make something happen. When he opened I could tell he was looking up but he wasnt sure. Had all I could stand went in and hollerd at him to get in there and find me a coon. He was 200 yrds in no time and bam he located but shut up. But as I got closer he pulled up and left. He really didn't sound confident in this tree either but I found the coon anyways. Who knows? He swung around and located further on down and stayed and had a coon. All night long he never said anything on the ground. Someone tell me their thoughts on this not opening and jus falling trees. He usually opens good on the ground.

My God what a night!!! If I never have a night like last night that would be just fine with me. I cut 4 or 5 times and get after a dang deer everytime. I let Kink and Sarge get the worst of me. I shocked and beat dogs for 7 hours. I bet these dogs covered 8 miles or more. we will try it again hope we learned something last night.
