the new guidelines

Black and Tan Sectional Guidelines

Applying for a Sectional
1. To apply, contact the Executive Vice President of the Association.
2. The application may be downloaded using the link at the bottom of these guidelines. Or, an electronic copy may be obtained through email from the Executive Vice President. Or, the application can be mailed (USPS) by contacting the Executive Vice President. The application must be completely filled out. The Liaison address must be a physical address because trophies cannot be mailed to P.O. Box. The completed application must be either emailed or post marked no later than February 1st of the year the sectional is to be held. However, if the sectional will be held in January, February or March, send the application no later than 120 days prior to the sectional date.
3. All sectionals must include at least one show and one hunt. Two night sectionals, scheduled for Friday and Saturday of the same weekend, will be given preference but single day events will be allowed at the discretion of the Executive Vice President. Sectionals must be at least 100 miles apart.
4. All sectionals must be approved by the Executive Vice President. Each club will be limited to one sectional per calendar year. The Executive Vice President will send the club a letter confirming the approval of the sectional either electronically or by mail.
5. The $150.00 fee must accompany the application. This fee partially defrays the cost of awards. If the application is denied, the club’s check will be refunded. Do not send cash. Make checks or money orders out to: TREASURER AMERICAN BLACK AND TAN COONHOUND ASSOCIATION.

Prior to the Approved Sectionals
1. The sectional is being sponsored by the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association and is being hosted by the club.
2. The registered dog owner must be a paid up member of the Association. Membership will be accepted at the event prior to entry deadline.
3. The Executive Vice President will send the host club forms for reporting results. These forms can be sent digitally upon request. The Association’s Membership Secretary will send forms for recording memberships at your sectional.
4. The company making the trophies will ship four Association trophies directly to the club liaison. If the liaison or liaison’s address changes, notify the Executive Vice President immediately.
At The Sectional
1. Post the following Association Policies:
Dogs placing in the event must be UKC registered to qualify for the American Black and Tan trophies and the registered owner must be a current member of the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association.
2. The host club must furnish personnel to accept membership in the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association.

Awarding the Trophies
1. The American Black and Tan Coonhound Association will furnish trophies for the High scoring Male and High scoring Female Black and Tan of the hunt and the Best of Show Male and Best of Show Female Black and Tan of the Show.
2. These four trophies must be awarded according to policies of the Association.
3. It is the responsibility of the club to verify that the registered owner of the Black and Tan is a current member of the Association before awarding the Association trophies.
4. In the show, the Best of Show Black and Tan Male and Female are selected from the Best of Breed Male and Female, Black and Tan Champion Male and Female and Black and Tan Grand Champion Male and Female.
a. Dogs competing for King Of Show (KOS) and Queen Of Show (QOS) are not required to have won their class. If there were no class winners, a black and tan from each class will be chosen to compete for KOS or QOS. Assuming there was at least one black and tan male Registered, one Champion and one Grand Champion entered in the show, three males will compete for KOS. Same applies for females and QOS.
b. Sectionals having Friday and Saturday shows shall award KOS and QOS to the overall winners. In other words, the 3 overall male and 3 overall females shown Friday must come back Saturday to compete against Saturday’s overall winners for KOS or QOS.
c. Should it happen that only one dog is competing for Best Overall Black and Tan Male or Female of the show, the trophy will be awarded as long as the registered owner is a current member of the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association.
d. Only the judge of the UKC registered bench show shall determine the KOS and QOS.
5. In a two night hunt, the high scoring Black and Tan Male or Female winner is the dog with TWO CAST WINS and the most total points. If no Double Cast winner then the highest scoring cast winner.
6. In the hunt, High scoring Black and Tan Male and Female trophies will be presented to the high scoring Black and Tan Male and Female CAST WINNERS WITH PLUS POINTS. If there were no cast winners then present to the Black and Tan non-cast winners with the most plus points. If there were no Black and Tans with plus points, DO NOT AWARD the trophies. In case of a tie use the UKC tie-breaking policy for awarding the King and/or Queen of Hunt.
7. If no Black and Tan qualifies for the awards, they become property of the host club.
8. Photos must be taken of every Black and Tan winning any part of the hunt and show. These pictures must be of quality that will reproduce satisfactorily in our breed album. It is required the photographs be taken in a well-lit area. Pictures developed commercially must be good quality. Polaroid pictures are not acceptable because they will be inferior in the yearbook. Digital images may be sent to the Executive Vice president.
9. All photographs, whether commercially developed or digital images, must be identified with the owner’s full name, hound’s full name and award won.

Upon Completion of the Sectional
1. Send to the Executive Vice President:
a. Sectional reports must be mailed or emailed on Monday following the event.
b. Photos may be mailed later but in no case sent later than thirty days following the event.
2. In the event of late reports and/or photographs, there will be a $20.00 fee and your club may lose the privilege of hosting a sectional the following year.
3. Monies for all Association memberships sold and forms for recording those memberships are to be sent according to instructions provided separately by the MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY.
