HTX Hunts

I went to my first HTX hunt last night wasn't sure what to expect but I must say it was a good experience. I usually just hunt nite hunts but this was a good change of pace. I would say for anyone that that wants to meet some new people and have a good hunt check one of these events out.

The one I went to last night didn't have a big turn out, but was still good. And I don't think some people understand actually how hard it can be to pass more then one mistake and your done. You have to have a coon dog forsure. I hope you have a good time and a good turnout!!!

I've been to three in the last 2yrs!,only because that's all I could find around me,,they just don't have them around here.
I enjoy them a lot,,yes you gotta have a dog to pass the test,,mine passed 2 and failed the last one,,she was coming in heat and acted retarded,,she was a slick tree queen that night,,what really peed me off is the coon was next tree over.
The one I went to,,turn out was 3 to 9 dogs,,they would do it right after their meeting

That's when we're having our 1st 1. Right after our monthly meeting. Excited about it. I think I have a dog that will pass just fine. Hope so anyway!

I've seen some good dogs fail it,it's harder than you think,,even if your dog trees a coon 5 minutes into the hunt,,and 5 minutes to find the coon,,you can't quit and say your dog passed,,you still have to hunt the remaining 5o minutes,,or how ever long is left for the full hour.
I seen it happen that way,,dog treed,spent a total off 10 minutes for dog to tree and find the coon,,then the dog slicked on 2 trees,,END OF HUNT,because dog had 2 strikes against him,,2 strikes against a dog and he's done,,don't matter if he treed 3 or 4 coon,,if he failed 2 times in that hour,,you head home not passing the test
GOOD LUCK IN THE HUNT,,I hope your dog does a good job and passes...
