I always enjoy this topic but I'm still searching for great food that's affordable. I think purina pro plan is excellent feed but purina is out of their minds for reducing bag sizes while prices keep going up.

I see Pride dog food mentioned a lot. Is that Sportsmans Pride, or just plain Pride dog food? The website for Pride dog food has a very limited area they sell Pride dog food. If i remember right, it was sold around West Virginia. Sportsmans Pride is sold all over the country.

I'm confused by all of the questions about dog food. I've been feeding Purina Dog Chow for years. My dogs are fat and slick. None of them ever won a world championship, but they tree quit a few coons. A month ago I bought a bag of Victor in a purple bag. About $1.50 a pound. I still have most of it. My hounds won't eat it. My wife's lap dog won't touch it. Hunters in this area still run deer with dogs. These guys feed the cheapest feed they can find and run these dogs every day for 60 days. They don't look good at the end of the season, but they're still running deer.

Sportmix blue bag 26/18 to most everything except one SPECIAL female gets Purina Pro Plan Sport with pups or Purina One when not on pups.

For the money and quality you just cant beat Sportmix IMO.

For whelping litters - I will not raise a litter without Pro Plan Sport for momma and pups. U cant whelp and raise fatter butterball pups on anything else. There's a big difference between keeping a litter alive and keeping em RIGHT.

I would be hard pressed to change the above.
Dont try to fix what aint broken.

I agree & have thought the exact same thing over the years.
My Da & Uncles used to feed Sunshine, the cheapest Dog Food you could Buy and the dogs got hunted pretty much daily on Squirrel & coon.....and actually the dogs ran loose 24/7. They lived long healthy lives.
Just saying.

Feed

Good Friends {Rural King} Orange bag.
$21.00 40lb bag
Does NOT have a lot of chemicals that are bad for dogs in it.

Will never feed Victor again after what I seen it do to my female in my signature.Several others on here had same issues.

In the hot months I feed Valu Pak blue back and during the cold months it’s Valu Pak black bag…

If we over feed the dogs they will poop the higher dollar feed almost as bad as some of the cheaper dog foods…

I bought a 45 lb. bag of Salmon & potatoes (4 Health) dog food for a female I plan on breeding…I’ve never seen flies land on dog food but there were flies attracted to the dog food…I take that as positive…Salmon is listed first on the list…

Yes. It is good feed for the money. I’ve hunted the guts out of dogs in the past while feeding it and it kept them up. Several different blends and some do better than others in my opinion but to each there own when it comes to that. 30 plus years of feeding Pride to more dogs than I could possibly count and it hasn’t ever let me down.

Yes. They sponsor southern coyote hunts. Many yote hunters around here feed it and those dogs will run 40-60 miles a day.

Now I'm not sure I would believe this if someone else told it to me. I caught a coon to tease some pups. I thought since the dogs won't eat the Victor I'll give it to the coon. It stayed in his bowl 3 days and he never touched it. I threw it out and filled the bowl with another brand of food. The next morning the bowl was empty.

The coon must have known it wouldn't be able to have kittens this winter after eating V dogfood!
