Shane glad to seeya back
Sam is short bawl on track unless frustrated in thick cover then has long bawl. He is tighter mouthed at 6yr than as young dog but still open enough to keep up with location and how fast he's moving. He goes as deep as needed to find track and finishes what he starts no matter how tough, and works well in swimming water and doesn't hesitate to swim beaver ponds, creeks,or rivers. He has good bawl locate and chops steady on tree and stays put and plenty loud. Temperament is even keeled and is very intelligent and learns lessons quickly and accepts correction and goes back hunting. Handles well and not trashy, honest strike dog, 65lb hunting wt, medium length ears, nice medium size head. Ted hunts National forest in Piedmont rolling hills with mixed pine hardwood and hardwood creek, river bottoms, few beaver ponds with usually one coon treed per turnout. Usually go 200 to 880 yds before strike, and another 880 to 1200 before tree. A good night is 3 single coon on 3 turnouts in 2-3 hrs hunt time split trees not very common. Sam was striking on tracks at 7 mos and treeing own coon at 9 mos and progressed rapidly, and his pups are around same time frame. He and pups are very accurate, fast track and tree dogs.
We hunt 3 littermates from 1st litter and all are top hunting dogs. I own GRNITECH CH'PR' Rocky Comfort Henry HTX and RC Rhett the cover dogs for 2013 Redbone issue. They were born 1/1/11 and I went on 1st coon hunt 1 month later and bought them 1 month after that. I started them by walking creeks by themselves and Henry started opening on tracks at 7mos and treed 1st coon at 9 mos , Rhett was 9mos -10mos. They never hunted with older dog until 1yr old and were consistently striking and treeing coons on most turnouts. They are also very intelligent and easily trained. They were both natural strike and tree dogs with Henry being the best of 3 we have. I had no intention of competition hunting ,but when Henry turned out so well, I decided to try it. Only because of Henry's natural ability and guidance from Ted would a novice be able to achieve GRNITE and World Coonhunt Qualifier. Henry has loud deep coarse chop mouth on track and hard loud fast chop on tree with triple chop locate or series of short bawls if cold track and slams tree on hot track. Rhett is loud clear beautiful bawl on track with loud long trailing off bawl locate and loud aggressive sounding chop on tree even by himself. Both stay put tree dogs for as long as it takes. Ted has their littermate Hulk and he is more like Rhett on track and tree. All 3 are open track mouth and hard tree dogs. I hunt wooded sand hills creek and river bottoms and beaver ponds and they excel in the water and flooded timber.
Their dam sired by Ted's dog Mongo's Duke and also goes back to Sandy Creek JJ, Thomas' Mo Bruiser, Pierce Mongo Red, Coffman's Little Barney, Rutter's Pine Meadow Amos, Hayes Rambling Red Zack, Parker's Rev Red, and Outlaw Billy The Kid with Moran's Midnight Rowdy, Hayes Rambling Red Ralph, Timber Blazing Rowdy, River Bottom Trooper, Baker's Red Cassidy, Hunter's Famous Amos, Mtn View Red Magic, Hersh's Huntin Red Ike and Wright's Timber Hoss, and Hayes Rambln Red Ace(Baker's Bob Ace)
in their 7th gen.
You asked and now have more than u probably needed to know, but hope u saw Outlaw Billy in there. Brian Layton has 1yr female by Sam that is really pleasing him.Rocky Comfort Rhett GRNITECH CH Rocky Comfort Henry HTX 2014 UKC World Championship Qualifier
