cold nose
In my opinion, and opinions are like shirts everybody has one, that being said,,, I believe that the closer you can get back to the old stud dogs of the past ,, the older the better, you will get more nose, you want to talk about fast tracking, a hound can only be as fast as his nose lets him. There are a few guys in the southwest USA that breed for nose, these guys breed that way for the terrain they find themselves in to track and tree consistently. If you look at there bloodlines you will see that they linebreed alot hoping to keep the nose power that they strive for. So just playing the percentage game , if you told me to find you a cold nose pup, I would probably look in the southwest USA . Keep in mind I've seen medium nosed hounds get so tuned in to a certain game animal that they can seem very cold nosed to the novice hound hunter. your question is a good one to open up in another area of this website, I'am sure you will get alot of feed on this subject. Hope my post help answer some of your question.
