Weak hunters

All these clubs holding single one hour hunts is shameful. Hunters are sure getting soft. Who really wants to drive any distance to a club to flip their dog a time or 2 at best?

Week hunters

Is it week hunters or maybe just maybe lack of MOH/HD club members (working club members) being over worked. It is my experience up here that 80% of people coming to hunts are non-club members or a few club members in name only. I have done about 12 MOH in the last year and not for just my club. That means I'm not hunting my dog. The hour hunts mean we can do double headers with chance to get double the benifit or just do one and not have to get in at 3 or 4 in morning. I heard and read from PKC guys who hunt the hour hunts during the week and all the complaining from them for UKC to get with program , now that they have made changes I hear complaints about it. Maybe we should go back to 3 hour hunts with same rules and cut clubs back to 4 hunts a year. Or maybe more people should get involved with the clubs, get their MOH license (seems most think they know the rules better than the MOH) and sit in club while some one else gets to hunt. JMO and there could be more but will leave that for later. JMO

Did that once in Tuzla Airbase, Bosnia, with my Airborne unit, 100 soldiers boarded to death sleeping in a run down old warehouse. Made home made sling shots. I think we had about 20 confirmed kills. I didn't eat only my MRE's or the mess hall LOL Infantry guys can be scary LOL

We just had hour cast youth hunts for youth nationals. I watched a dog come back from-325 in the hole with 30 minutes left to win with +225 in 85 degree night time temperatures. That dog never took first strike.

I like them. I didn't think I would when they first came out, but after hunting them a while I like a one hour double header. When I started thinking about all the 2 hour casts I have hunted on it seemed like the dog that was ahead after 1 hour usually won the cast anyway.
The great thing about UKC is we don't have to bad mouth people that like a longer or shorter hunt because we have the option to have whichever one we want. Thanks UKC!
So if you like one better than the other join some clubs and have them sign up for those types.

One hour hunts is the only way to go in the south. Extreme heat carries on into early November down here and will be back in late February most times. Couple that with fast shrinking available ground to hunt on and its the only remedy for a bad situation. Even with the hour hunts, ground can be hard to find down here with "KING DEER" leases in effect and un-educated deer and coon hunters fighting each other for it. Most times its just not worth the effort and headache.

.

My opinion I think it's cause people can't keep there dog out of trouble for a two hour hunt so they won't a one hour hunt I can't stand them neather. Be for long we will probably have to hunt thirty min hunts

We ain’t had any yet but the one hour double header minie slams looks like to me would give the old doggies a chance to compete again. Go out hunt an hour come back in have coffee and snacks go back out come back have breakfast just the way I would do it.

Then don't go to them. it's pretty simple. I hate the 2 hour hunts that last 6 hours. Especially when many times the hunt winner has been decided in the 1st hour. I have no interest in HTX, field trials or water races so I don't go to them.

UKC is trying to make something for everyone. 1 hour hunts for guys that can't do longer hunts. 2 hour hunts for guys that prefer them. 90 min hunts, my personal favorite, are available too I think (at least slams). $ hunts, trophy hunts, whatever.

Go to the 2 hour hunts, boycott the 1 hour hunts. Talk to club leaders and encourage them to continue having some 2 hour hunts.

just don't call other fellow hunters weak for enjoying dog work in a different way than you prefer.

I don't know about getting soft. But I'm with you, why some would want to have 1 hours on the weekends is beyond me.

READ MY POST AND IT'S SPELLED OUT IN VERY SIMPLE TERMS. THEY ARE NOT MAKING ANY MORE GROUND TO HUNT ON. What we have is it. You can't tree in 1000 acre cut downs. A club must tailor their schedules and hunt times based on what's available to them at their time of need. That is as plain and simple as one can put it. It may not be what they want, but it's what they can do.

You dare not ask to hunt a deer lease here from September - January. That's a cardinal sin in an uneducated deer man's eyes.

I'm struck for 25 more often than not. My dogs win one hour, 90 min, and 2 hour casts at the same clip. About 60%

I bet if you went to twenty of each your win percentage is going to be about the same.

Makes no difference to me how often a dog winning after the hour end up winning at the end of two. Fact is an hour is not enough time with the way dogs get split up to really allow all the dogs time to display there talents, good or bad. Most times a guy drives to a hunt any distance he will spend more time driving the dog around then letting it hunt. No good

Since the new hour format change I have won all 7 hour casts and I still despise them.

One hour double headers are a clubs best friend. The best way to get numbers up with the same 10 people that will support a club. Most people crying have nothing to do with a club and are like the other kc hunters and only care about themselves.

Honestly what I keep reading on this forum is how bad us $kc guys are. I can say I have never entered a ukc event. And never plan to. But 1 hour hunts do help get some guys that wouldn't be able to hunt otherwise, maybe an old senile dog or maybe a gentleman with failing health conditions. But I don't think its because we hunters are soft or weak. It has to do with the fact that most guides don't have the amount of ground you need to hunt 2 hours in 1 spot. And if you say you do that's not public ground, I can bring 4 dogs and I bet we get the called on us before we ever hit the 2nd hour mark. Most of the dogs today aren't bred to hunt around you, they're bred to go find the coons no matter the distance.

I’m just stating facts $kc only hunters don’t care about clubs. Clubs are the only reason we have a sport UKC keeps them going. I’ve won over 5,000 since February in the $kc but I’m a club first person. Put the club before the hunter or you won’t have to worry about having any hunters. One hour hunts put more money in the clubs bank period.

nothing against what you're saying but just because I don't hunt ukc doesn't man in not a club member. Just stating facts, just because I prefer pkc over ukc doesn't mean I'm not a club member. I just don't like ukc format. If your club solely rellies on night hunts for $, your club should close its doors.
