I would have to agree that Smokey River Kennels has had the most influence. Warren seemed to buy a good dog and put Smokey River on it in the early days. When Smokey River jb Cheif came along, He seemed to start to line breed. Cheif, Tramp, and Bullet have had an undeniable influence on the Bluetick breed. Many of the hounds that have placed in the top twenty of the UKC world hunt in the past twenty years have had Smokey River breeding up close in their pedigree.

Warren Haslouer owned a bunch of good studs and raised a lot of pups, but he wasn't the same kind of breeder that Dave Dean, Ed Mead, or the Uchtman's were.

He was a great promoter of the Bluetick breed.

Mike Sheppard and Piazon. In the last 5 years multiple hounds out of Piazon have been in the highest level of winning big events. Couple years back I believe there were 4 or maybe 5 hounds in the world finals directly out of Piazon. He has been a great reproducer.

Visited Lonnie Smiley a few years back at the time that Rambo 2 was just getting popular. He said at that time that Rambo and Hornet of the Utchman would make big impact on the Bluetick breed. I believe that to be correct I have also visited Warren Haslour several times and he said that he has owned several top hounds but chief was by far his best reproducer that he owned. In the last 20 years I am going to list four dogs that I think has had a big impact on the Bluetick breed. Chief - Rambo 2 - Hornet- Tucker’s boomer.

All of them

Everyone that has a bluetick and breeds it has an impact somewhere in the breed. Good breeders DNA Profile their females. If you buy a pup that does not have a DNA Vip Pedigree. You risk getting a puppy that may be another breed bred into the pedigree. People have and continue to put papers on dogs that do not belong to the dog presented. Sometimes it happens and the owner doesn’t even know it. Here is your sure bet. DNA VIP Don’t be a fool.

The Utchmans

I think the Utchman dogs have the largest POSITIVE impact in the bluetick breed.

It takes both parents having their DNA on file to get a DNA-VIP pup. Than you have to send a sample in on the pup. Takes a well to get them back as Ukc waits until they have a bunch of them to send em to the lab. Chances are of your buying an eight week old pup this is impossible. Plus it adds $50 to the price of your pup. I can think of a single breeder who does this. You mentioned the Utchmans, I know them and I'm pretty sure they have all had litters that were not DNA-VIP. Plus I've never heard not once a stud dog owner saying yes $X plus negative bur. Test, plus your female and all her pups must be DNA-VIP. This is a good idea, but to say "good breeders" might be a stretch for now.If things turn out I'll have 2 DNA-VIP studs one day. GRCH Deepholler Mud Buggs htx2, and Sonny. Both will have to finish growing up and reproduce coondog first though.

DNA-VIP

You see a lot of all grand pedigree. But how many do you see that are all grand DNA VIP All Grand. If you are seriously breeding your own. Think about it being done the right way. Performance sites already have it to qualify. Your female is what $50. $50 dollars is a bag and 1/2 of dog food. Minus well profile the female at that rate so the dogs value doesn’t end up on the pile or crap beside the pen too.

I can see multiple interpretations for the term "most influence" and " breeder" That could mean the guy that got the most kids into Blueticks, the guy who's dogs show up in the most pedigrees, the guy who's dogs show up in the most pedigrees of dogs that place at major events etc. Also does the person that gets this recognition have to be the breeder as in owner of female that determined the cross? Without question the guy that has had the most success in the last 20 (25 now that this thread is 5 years old) years by proving it is possible to have a bluetick that can compete in the major events and thus keep interest in the breed alive, is Ron Taylor.

I agree. There are several different ways to look at this. I also agree about Ron. He has been in 5 world final fours with blue dogs.

As a breeder I believe you have made great crosses that have impacted the breed. How many hounds out of Piazon have been in the world finals over the last 5 years? I know it's more than any other stud dog I can think of.
