I like any kind of useful prize. I've won several embroidered chairs that I use a lot, and jackets are always nice. Hunting gear would be neat to win, but I know in my own personal case (and probably that of many others), I would just end up selling some of the bigger ticket items (like lights) that I already own. I saw a personalized squaller given away as a prize on some post on this board, and I'd love to win one of those.

Probably the best prize I ever won was a $100 Visa gift card...I wouldn't mind winning something like that again! LOL.

Over the years we have won so many trophies and plaques I can open my own trophy shop. LOL I have decided to take a nice picture of my dog put it in a plaque and when they win take the little plate off the trophy that says what it is and put it on the plaque under the picture. This will be a lot easier to dust as well. Gift cards, dog food and hunting related items are nice too.

I think a plaque with the win photo on it is a neat idea. I have one from what used to be a "big" event for the other kennel club in our state, and it is one of my favorite trophy type awards I've won. The folks had a photo printer on hand to print win pictures to put in the plaque right away, but I don't think most people would be opposed to having a copy emailed or mailed.

Show Prizes

These prizes are not for a show with 5-10 dogs. It would be for our big hunt were we normal average 40- 60 dogs

If the person wins a show, allow them to to show at the next show for half off or free OR allow them to do the same thing for the next couple of shows (2 or 3 shows). You are technically not putting any money out of your pocket.

Its not an award but it may bring in more people since they arent having to pay the full price or pay at all.

I have found some awards type companies that will engrave items if bought in moderate volumes; examples include mag lights, pocket knives, T-shirts, clocks, thermos bottles, etc. If a club bought 50 of these items engraved with a simple Club Name and Logo, they could get a decent price and perhaps a better prize brings a few back. Choose 3 items types, and buy 30 each and you have awards for several years. The drawback is the upfront cost....

If I show at a local event, I've never expected a prize of any sort. The win slip is fine. However, if it's an advertised event that someone wants folks to maybe have to travel for, it's nice to win something especially if the entry fee is $20 or $25.

Lesson I've learned though...if you win a prize that a club says they will mail to you, don't expect to get it LOL. I won a state championship last year (my first one) and don't even have a little plaque to commemorate the occasion. Showed 3 dogs at $20 a pop, you have to figure I paid for the trophy that was supposedly being mailed to me with just my entry fees. I did get a $25 bag of dog food...didn't have to buy feed for the deer dogs that week! LOL. Life goes on, and in the scheme of things trophies are just something else to dust and clean around. But a child or younger person might be upset about something like that.

I like the idea of the engraved knives and such! My brother in law runs a trophy shop, and had put some photos of an engraved pocket knife on their Facebook page the other day. I believe the machine they use could even do logos and such. That would be a pretty neat prize, for hunt OR show. Some of the all-breed shows have given coolers with the event won on them too...that's also something that would be useful for a show or hunt winner.
