zimecterin gold wormer?

I need to deworm two dogs tomorrow and I forget how much and how often to give it to them? I bought the Zimecterin gold paste. Had it before and last time I wormed them was 3 months ago and forgot to keep doing it. Please give me a fresh memory to how often and how much to give. Thanks.

Never use the horse wormer on a dog. If you use anything get the cattle and swine solution.

I used zemectrin gold for a couple years and never had a problem. I then used it on a pup and nearly killed it and no I did not over does the pup. I did end up saving the pup by giving it sub-q fluids, but after that happened I will never used it again.

I also helped another man on here save a pup that he gave zemectrin gold to.

My vet recommended to to me.

He said watch the ingredients in the wormers. Zemetrin Gold's ingrediants were fine for dogs . Don't use too much when using any wormer. Good luck.

I'm really surprised your vet recommended ZG. It is a great wormer for horses and the 2 active ingredients are great wormers for dogs. The problem is... the ingredients are not in the proper ratio for dogs. Read this link on the topic. There are much easier, less expensive and safer ways to worm your dog.

click on the thread above and listen to what Craig Edwards has to say about it.

I will tell you it might not kill every pup. Like I said I used it for a couple years, but when you see what I have seen using it first hand you will never use it again.

It never ceases to amaze me that coonhunters will spend hundred to thousands of dollars on a dog and then take a chance of killing it by using horse, goat and cattle wormers.

I never said anything about pups. I don't give pups horse wormer. They get pup wormer until my vet says its ok. It's all about the active ingredients and giving the correct amount.

It is ok to give dogs wormers labeled for other animals provided the active ingredients are the same and can be dosed properly for dogs. The thread I posted has all of the info you need.
The safest, most effective over the counter wormer is Fenbendazole which is the active ingredient in all Safeguard and Panacur wormers.

been using it for many years. never had a problem with worms or sick dogs. just use wisely as with any wormer or meds. the main thing is that you treat your dogs for worms. many don't worm there dogs consistently and that is were you run into problems.

I've been using it for a year now and I guarantee I can take Diesel or Flakey to the vet to be checked and they will not have a single worm show up.. Giving any regular wormer is nothing more then a poison, Mearicle Solution is non toxic, pesticide free powder that can be added to your dogs food. Its so safe, you can take it..

Z.G. kills tape worms, and tape worm med. is toxic to pups. I lost several pups because I listened to a salesperson at Orangeburg.
I did not overdose them, but they died. The only one that made it was my all time favorite hound, Mayberry Blue Andy. Andy died at 2 yrs. of age, and two different vets, in two different areas both told me his death was due to kidney failure caused by Z.G.. You may use it on credit....buy now.........but you'll pay later. You hear guys say use this or that, but be careful. Many wormers can be used, without anything happening to your dog................yet.

I will make this as Simple .....

Each Tube of "ZG" Has 7.35 Grams of Mixture

Praziquantel makes Up 7.75 % of that and is Equal to .56 Grams or 560 Mil grams.

The Min. amount to Praziquantel to Kill or Control Tapeworms in a 60 Lb Dog is 160 Mg. any less is totaly inifective ..

This Means that It would Require Nearly 1/3 of a tube to do anything to control Tapeworms in a 60 Lb Dog !!

Ivermectin makes up 1.55 % of a Whole tube and is Equal to 100 Mil grams..

The Amount of Ivermectin to Control Heart Worms in a 60 Lb Dog is 272 "Micro Mil Grams" or .272 Mil. Grams

This Means there is 27 Dosages of Ivermectin in a 7.35 Gram Tube ..

Different Active ingrd. and What they Kill

Active Ingredients in Wormers

Pyrantel Pamoate : A very safe and effective ingredient to treat Roundworms, Hookworms and Pinworms in Dogs. Need to Dose a second or even a third time 2-4 weeks apart to eliminate all stages of the worms.. Found in "Nemex-2", "Drontal Plus", "Virbantel", "Strongit-T"

Piperzine : Effective against two types of Roundworms in Dogs and Cats For maximum effectiveness, must be administered at least 2 times 10-14 days apart .. Found in Anchor Piperazine Water Wormer, Happy Jack Kennel Wormer, Happy Jack Puppy Paste, Pipa-Tabs, Pipfuge, Purina Liquid Wormer, Sergeant's Worm-Away

Fenbendazole : A very Broad spectrum dewormer used in both Large animals and small .. In dogs, it is most effective against Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms and even Giardia bacteria Infections.
Treatment is once a day for 3 days in Puppys or Very Infested Adult Dogs, Normal worming is only once in Adults.. Found in "Drontal-Plus", "Panacur C" and "SafeGuard"

Parziquantel : The Drug of Choice for the Treatment of Adult Tapeworms Infection in Dogs. But will not Kill Tapeworm Eggs, so their is a potential for reinfestion. Repete treatmet is required on a reg. basis to kill Tapeworm Hatches .. Found in "Drontel-Plus", "Virbantel", "Droncit"

Ivermectin : Most commonly used as a monthly preventative for heartworms in Dogs and Cats. It is also effective against External Parasites such as Lice, Mange and Ear Mites

Treatment of the Different types of Tape Worms ..
From the Merk Veterinary Manual ..

Dosage of dogs can be treated with praziquantel at 7.5 mg/kg, PO, for 2 consecutive days... So to treat a 50# dog would be 170 mg ...

Control of tapeworms of dogs and cats requires therapy and prevention. Animals that roam freely usually become reinfected by ingestion of metacestodes in carrion or prey animals. Dipylidium caninum is different because it can cycle through fleas that may be associated with confined infected animals. An accurate diagnosis is necessary for effective advice on preventing reinfection.
Effective treatment should remove the attached scolices from the small intestine of infected animals. (See Table: Cestodes of Dogs and Cats in North America for specific approved treatments.) For dogs, it should be noted that dichlorophene, fenbendazole, mebendazole, and nitroscanate are approved for treatment of Taenia spp , and that mebendazole is approved for treatment of Echinococcus spp . Likewise, for cats, dichlorophene, fenbendazole, and mebendazole are approved for treatment of Taenia spp , and mebendazole and praziquantel are approved for treatment of Echinococcus spp .
Praziquantel at 7.5 mg/kg, PO, for 2 consecutive days is effective against Diphyllobothrium sp in dogs. Furthermore, a single dose of 35 mg/kg, PO, eliminates D latum from infected cats.
Infections with S mansonoides in dogs can be treated with praziquantel at 7.5 mg/kg, PO, for 2 consecutive days. Spirometra sp infections in cats can be treated with a single dose of praziquantel at 30 mg/kg, SC, IM, or PO.

http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/i...tm/bc/23512.htm

To Go Further !!!

You Can Buy a Bottle (50 ml) of 1% Ivermectin for about $30 and You could 100 Dosages for the Control of Heart Worms !!!!

The Same Cost to Get 100 dosages in "ZG" at around $10 per Tube would cost $40 ...

but all forms of wormers are dangerous in the long run. vet told me that worming is key to dogs health, but wormers do hurt the dog in someways over prolong use. any wormer with MEXCIN has side effects.

I use one of those measuring cups that come on children's liquid medicine,I believe that is 3 teaspoons. I give one per dog, per day, for the first 3 days a month... That dosage might be a tick much but you cant over dose it.
