Home Remedies

Lets start a topic of home cure remedies that will benefit all.

1. Doxycycline - 100 ml tablets, used for lymes disease.
Bird Biotic.com - around $30.00 for a bottle of 100 pills.

2. Dew poisoning - yeast infections of the ears.
Vagisil - over the counter

3. Flea control -
Permethrin-10 - tractor supply - 8oz bottle of concentrate for 7 bucs.

4. Ticks control
Python purple cattle tags - tractor supply - 30 bucs for 20 count

5. Ear mites - control
WD40 - clean inside of ear and dry completely, apply inside of ear with wd40 with a Q-tip. do not spray into ear.

6. Vetericyn - wound and skin care - Tractor supply
My opinion it works better than Nu-Stock without the smell.

These are a few that have worked for us.

Apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is a natural antifungal, great for yeast and other fungi. Great on dew poisoning!

Mix isopropyl alcohol and Peroxide 60/40 and makes a great ear cleaning solution. use it regularly.

Best cleaning solution for in and around kennels, CREOLIN.
Love that stuff!!! Mix it up in a sprayer and cleans and deodorizes for weeks!!!

Garlic for ticks and fleas. 2xs a week is what I give them. Raspberry extract to bring a bitch in if she is overdue.

It is. More than likely it came out of the same exact factory. Antibiotics are FDA regulated, even the fish ones, and have to have the right purity and effectiveness.

I suppose you could argue that some of them have been mishandled and allowed to exceed heat/cold recommendations but I have never had an issue with them. My vet prescribes us 300 at a time for like 5 or 10 cents a piece though so we just use him now.

Kennel Wash

I use 2 gallons of bleach, 1 gallon of Apple Cider Vinegar and a 8 oz bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid to clean a 10 by 20 kennel; works very good. (not only helps clean but helps control fleas and gnats. Also keep a gallon of odor ban on hand and the spray kennels after cleaning.

On the ground around and under kennels I use dehydrogenated lime to control odor and keep ground dried up as possible. (I have above ground pens and kennel)

I hang the dollar store sticky fly traps up high in my kennels where the dogs can not get to them; especially August and September when the fruit flies are hatching.

Powder isn't strong enough. I use minced garlic you can buy in the spice section. Pour over the food 2xs/week. About a teaspoon. It works!!!

X2
And well worth the money.
you can really tell how good it works on the long days during hunting season. when their ears get all cut up . with out it the next morning they are like card board. just spray some of this on there and they are just as soft as they ever were.

Good Post Steve.

you can hang a couple zip lock baggies full of water around your kennels.
( I use wire ties)
it keeps flys away.

Haven't been watching this post for awhile. Clean back on the 5th page. Can't believe some of you older beaglers don't have some home remedies or secret potions to share with fellow beaglers.

I carry a little container of cornstarch in my truck with me to stop bleeding when they get cut ears. Compress it down on the cut and hold it awhile and the blood usually stops.
