Final round of photos and current info.
Syrus turned 2 on November 4, 2015. He's dual registered in AKC/UKC, and he's a no trash, built for speed, single minded coon dog. He's tall and lean with the muscular build of his sire and grand-sire. He’s got a loud bawl mouth and opens up on the track. See original post above for pedigree and UKC Performance information. Last year he was hunted mostly with other dogs (as we had several pups), and he was getting the job done...this fall he's been hunted mostly on his own. He trees coon either way but he's an independent hunter, and doesn't usually go to dogs on track/treed, but prefers to find his own trail to run. And he hunts hard, they have to. Although we are in prime country, distemper hit the area a few years ago and greatly reduced our raccoon population. That has not caused any issues with running trash, it just means they have to search and get smart...coon aren't easy to find. We have deer in the field in front of our house nightly and next to our garage fairly often and the dogs don't even bark at them. They are no joy when you see and smell them daily, and the dogs run past them without a glance at night.
We are just off the river, in rugged hill country with ravines behind our place dropping hundreds of feet only to rise again. They are turned out for free time and disappear for half the day, enjoying all the land has to offer and learning lessons on their own. Nothing in our area is flat or easy and our dogs are lean and strong with rock hard muscles. We've sent several to the mountains and they've done very well hunting bear and big cats and handling that rough terrain. That comes from the Dr. Evil blood (who is our Evil Knievel's sire). Many of Doc’s pups run big game…those dogs are keen and smart, which helps them stay alive. They are also single minded. They hunt. Look at that gleam in his eye...that dog loves doing what he was bred to do.
We haven't been pushing hard to sell him because my husband wanted to spend some time hunting him by himself; to make sure he was ready without relying on the other dogs and hadn't picked up any bad habits over summer. He's good to go to a great home and he loves to hunt. We've also got a couple other dogs that we’re going to be finishing out in the next few weeks and I'll be posting about them as he gets them back out.
