What happened

Not to long ago the recipe to win was a piece of yours his an one by yourself an you would win now everyone advertises deep an alone u take a cast now first strike an a coon an you win your cast. Personaly i hate it walk all night to seperate trees miles apart. Here in my country a dog goes a mile he has passed up more than he will tree allnight. When i was a kid guys called a dog that blew threw the country a bushwacker today we call them a coondog what an why ??

Dogs that blow through the country to get treed will get you in trouble a lot of times in our part of the country.

I disagree. When you got dog power and a loner in one hide you can win 1 hour or hunts that last all night long. People are breeding to the big winners. Last time I checked it's hard to win big in one hour hunts. They don't pay much.

Real Track dogs gone..

Need to get' m back in big hunts.they' ll tree two, to ole deep and lonely' s one, in abundant coon. What's happening is they have bred the silent dog to babble and they love it. Around here in nc a firsts and first and you win a 2 hr hunt whether you got a coon or not, alot of times. There's one in every tree.Lol

if a place the got coons, that real trackdog is a loner too.round here they put out buckets. Dogs don't have to go far, sometimes and there's 1 coon in woods maybe walked, maybe not.

All I can tell you is dogs that tree coons and don't draw minus wins hunts. A real coondogs ability will often put them deep and alone. Sad problem is 85% of people that coon hunt are to lazy to turn loose a real compitition style coondog. They want a dog they can compete with but the lazy part is why we have to many slick treeing idiots. People want a compitition dog but they don't want them switching zip codes when there not walking. They had just rather them tree a squirrel and get circled. That's just the truth. Some will understand what I'm saying. Some will think I'm crazy. But a dog with no reverse and deadly accurate = a lot of nights getting on posted land.

The reason they are deep and alone is because the trainer got tired of watching their dog stand on his head in one place for an hour. Used to you had to kniw what your dog was doing by listening to it and then you had to walk in there and send him on. Now you watch the Garmin and push a button. That's why there are so many deep and alone type dogs now. It's easier to train them to be that way. Stop shocking them and they will all go back to standing on their head and treeing together. They also have to have enough heart and drive to go on after being corrected. The ones that go to the truck or hide in the bushes dont make big time winners.

Another reason why people train for deep and lonely is because they don't their dog doing the same stupid crap all the others are. If you don't train them that way they will back on a slick, tree a opossum, stand on there head trying to run a track they can't tree. If he is by himself he can't be influenced by the others.

Independence is hard to come by. To me that's a dog that's goin do its own thing with or without other dogs with them. Independence is something that's bred in and helped along by singling dog out as needed. But deep and alone I think isn't bred in as much as man made or at least 50/50. I don't want a dead loner I still want dog that's goin get mine and piece of yours. To many bucket races to have dog busy trying get away from other dogs for first couple hundred yards.

andycanada are dogs have so many variations to their style it is hard to label all of them. Remember this. Back in the day when we hunted with different people depending on the group and their location. They had different terms for what was going on. We then picked up the cute slogans and used them ourselves. Now about every week someone on the here is figuring out another term for what the dogs are doing and hang a cute title on them. Heck Tar probably has come up with two or three this month.
You can hang any title you want on them and come up with any cute slogan you want to. We need to remember the bottom line of coon hunting and that is the coon.

There's no need to go a mile before you tree. If you do that around here then you've more than likely passed up 8 coons.

About 1 1/2 yr ago I said I could take a last strike dog and first tree dog with a coon that's by its self most of the time and win more than I would loose and I proved it. And dark did too !! Most of the average competition dogs of today ( catchy phrase Bruce ) caught up in the moment dogs by time they get their head out of their butt and get done chasing each other and they are 800 yrds in 5 minutes my kind of dog has one treed and in a case of no leash lock I am cut and after anouther one. Back in the day over a three hr hunt you were heads up the better track and accurate tree dog prevailed yes we had dogs go deep and split tree a well trained athlete would just keep gaining ground on you over 3 hrs when you were hunting a coon dog the rest of the cast scores were seldom even close by the end of the hunt that last hour parts started falling off or they minused out.

I will say i love the one kc rule that does away with being leash locked. Under those rules in several hunts the dogs were able to score on 5 seperate trees in an hour.

If PKC had that rule, the deep and lonelies would quickly fade away.

round here if dog is trying to get away from bucket races, deep and lonely, their beat right from start. If coon is moving, its on bucket, there ain't no more unless they make one.you know back in 80s when there was more track dogs,if one bogged down on track, stood on his head, ever what we call it now.it wasn't coonhunted long. Moved it on to bigger faster game it could smell.there was some legends sold for standing on their heads. Only real good tracking coondogs stayed and were accurate, period.they were fast track driving, coon treeing machines that were accused of running off game or any excuse.most have never seen this,i believe. Then along came the silent bucket racers and they banned them in one kc. Me myself,I loved hunting with them, watching legends stand around a tree didn't know there was a coon in.lol.there's more, but them dogs are gone, gone gone. Only thing left is comp dog,big winners, lol.

In ohio the only way you got thin coons is if you kill them all or you hunt where there are no trees !! Down here in Oklahoma I would love to have a dog check back where I could move 900yrds is an over an hour walk in this thick stuff.
