Swollen head

I have a pup who was snake bit on the leg a week ago and it never swelled up much then went away. I hunted him and think he may have got into some bees or something. Head been swollen since Saturday and been giving him Benadryl few times a day and not helping. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've had pups try to tear down my honeybee stands, get stung a bunch and be over it in 2 or 3 days. Had one to eat bad shrimp that I was going to use for trotline bait. Her nose swelled up bad, blowing snot everywhere. Gave her benydrill, next day she was a lot better. Thought the shrimp was gonna kill her.

looks like pen is starting to work, going down a lil but still pretty swollen. He stands there for his shot so maybe it's making him feel better?

Just a quick question? Does this pup have any pustules, sores on its body especially on or around its face or missing hair around its eyes or edges of ears?
I'm sure doc has you giving a steroid which is also part of the treatment on what came to mind when I read this. My first thought was puppy strangles, though very rare it does occasionally pop up.

I have a dog that I thought was either stung by bees or bitten by a spider on her head. In one day, her head swelled up big, so I gave her Benadryl.

By the next day, her head was still swollen, the right side of her neck was also swollen, and the swelling had gone all the way down to her right shoulder. The Benadryl didn't seem to help her, and she kept shaking her head every so often, so I took her in to the vet that day.

Her swelling ended up being caused by a broken tooth on the right side of her jaw, back by the molars. The vet put her on a week of antibiotics, & there was still a bit of swelling left so he gave her another week of them. She is back to normal now, but will be going in to have that tooth removed.

I had a 3 month old pup that had puppy strangles. His eye was swollen and had sores around his mouth and nose. I wasn't planning on keeping this pup but the vet said not to sell it. It turned out to be one of the best dogs I ever raised, he is a little over a year and a half and no signs he ever had it.

The couple that I know that had it turned out very nice and I am fairly certain that Big Water Oak Mable also had it as a pup.

The durapen did the trick. Switched to a stronger antibiotic and just waiting for it to clear up.

Just curious did your vet give you any diagnosis?

Never took him in. That vet didn't get back to me when I called and I am working out of town and he is with me. When I got back home that evening he looked much better, so I figured an infection.

I had a hound who develop a swollen head due to an infection from foxtail or other similar plant. Predisone is what helped with the swelling about 50%. Eventually, the vet performed an operation. That finally did the job.

Oh my goodness! Surely, you don't think old Tar has a swollen head, it just takes a big head to hold all that knowledge. Lol. Dave

One reason why you should not sell them .It is a trait/disease that is believed to be possibly hereditary.
Most recover fairly easy with antibiotics /steroids treatment but it can be fatal if not treated.

In over 400 pups in father and son I have had 1 from a litter out of Mafia. I have saw 1 Reezen dog with it, who is sliggtly related but not closer than any other Walker to ours. I have saw one other pup that had it. It is rare but when it has ran it's course there have been no long term negative affects in the ones I have had experience with. The reason for the antibiotics is to prevent staph infection which can lead to worse problems than anything. Prednisone treats by suppressing the immune system responce to help lessen symptoms and swelling.
Big Water Oak Mable (a grandmother to our Mafia dog) and was a very winning female and a sister to X Jr. If it is truly a genetic problem it would be much more predominate in the Walker line as many dogs have this breeding in them.
