good luck with Roofus i've been watching his progress since Dave started posting about him I bought his litter mate Rusty from Dave last fall he was a little rusty when i got him as Dave told me he was but the first night out he made two trees in short order he is a little different than Roofus he's a close hunting dog that works real well for me but you don't have to walk him he leaves on the run and gets the job done he progressed real well last fall then winter set in last week was the first we got out since the end of Nov and it was just like we had hunted all along didn't miss a beat so i'd say there is some good blood behind these hounds . I can't do the night hunts because of my knees Dave said Rusty wouldn't make a nite hunt dog but i'd say if he was pushed hard he would do well but he and i are just havin fun hope you and Roofus do the same in the hunts keep up the good work make Dave proud Neal Honey in NY

Neal, I am glad you like Rusty and I am glad JR likes Roofus. With you guys permission, I may put up a clip of Rusty on this thread so folks will know it is not just 1 dog out of the litter that made a good dog. Neal, Roofus is a little too hard going for you or I but a young guy like JR can keep up with him.

The important thing is that neither Rusty or Roofus were the only ones in the litter to make good dogs. They have different styles of hunting but both get the job done.

Thanks guys... Well I am going to bed now... Gonna get up early to hit the road to N.C. I will do my best to make the winners circle... But anything can happen... I am not going to win I am just going to hunt... But winning will make it a better trip... I plan on hunting Friday and Saturday nights... This will be my first trip to Southern English Days... We will take a laptop with us so maybe I can let you know how we do... We aren't planning on coming home until Sunday... Once again thanks, JR

When Roffus gets hooked, he is there to stay. At least he was that way with me. Good luck in the hunt. You have the right attitude, you may not win. But, I know you are hunting a dog with the tools to be a winner and with a little luck, you will be OK.

Southern English Days....

We had a good time and had some great guides... We just couldn't bring in a winning score... I hope to be able to go back next year... We hunted in Viriginia on Friday night and North Carolina Saturday night... We had a blast...

Here is a video clip of Lakeland's Mini-Mouse, Roofus's mother. Mini is a UKC Grand Bench Champion and a PKC Squirrel Dog Champion. She won her PKC Squirrel Dog Championship the hard way winning 11 out of 14 casts. There was a PKC Squirrel Dog Champion in about every cast and she was hunted against a PKC World Squirrel Championand a PKC Reserve World Champion.Champion. I believe she would win Nite Hunts the same way she won squirrel hunts, split treed with the meat. I called on her locate and she never left a tree.

NTCHGRCH 'PR' MADDY GEES ROOFUS

Roofus wins again he won 2nd place with 250+ tonight at a Black and Tan Sectional in Princeton,WV. Roofus had 0 minus 150 deleted 525 circle 250+ points.. I gotta get to bed I have be at work in three hours..

Thanks Dave... You were right when you said Roofus will make you love him... I know I do... I want to thank you again for your honesty about Roofus... He is a true COONDOG... We had a flawless night last night... Roofus is the best hound that I have followed for a long time... I am proud to own him... I like his style alot... A black and tan handler thought I treed his dog last night on the first drop... I told him buddy I won't tree my dog on someone elses dog.. I said if ol' Roofus isn't standing there on the side of that tree when we get there I want you to minus him... He was deep with the meat by himself... The black and tan was there trailing all over the place and wouldn't tree... Maybe we will finish in the next hunt... I would like to go to an English Sectional this upcomming weekend but I don't think I will be able to make it... Roofus has actually won three out of four hunts we had a bad judgement call and my fault for not knowing the rules well enough on the last night at Southern English Days... But on paper two out of four ain't bad... Take Care, JR

I seen some positive things last friday night... We dumped out at least twice on deer and once on a opposum and not a peep came out of Roofus... I truly believe he is as straight as they come... Let me tell you the truth about the line of dogs Roofus is out of and trash. They are naturally straight. To the best of my knowledge, Roofus was never broke off of deer, he just naturally never ran any. I know his mother never ran a deer. I know both his maternal grandmother and grandsire never ran deer. It is a trait in the line. Roofus may pass it on but if you breed him to females that run trash, the pups might run trash.

Roofus did tree 1 possem this winter. Actually, a pup treed it but Roofus did bark treed. It was across a flloded creek and all I needed to do was hollar at him and he quit. He had lots of chances to tree possems last winter, he just didn't do it.

You can list me in the fan club and trust me, I am hard to please. He would have never got the chance here that you are giving him. You have my sincere thank you for doing a good job!

I have a half sister I call Angel that is just as good as Roofus. She has never ran any trash either.

Im trying to track down a female that has alot of the same blood the ginger dog had in her.the timberstar buck stuff should cross well on him.I would like to hunt with him maybe we can set up a hunt.

John we may just luck out and get another Ginger... If we make the right cross...
Roofus went his deepest since I got him on the first drop last friday night. We could just barely hear him when he struck and got treed... I will count you in too Dave Lol...

Bam Bam II was on UKC's Reproducer's List until he go too old to qualify. As you can hear and see, Roofus was an apple that didn't fall too far from the tree. Bam Bam II was a double grandson of Dickey's Old Sandy and a grandson of Timberstar Buddy. he was about as much Junior bred as they get. I have video of 4 other Grand Nite Champion brothers and sister of Bam Bam II including Dual Grand Champion Clemon's Little Bam, a dog I studded for years.

GRCH 'PR' MADDY GEES ROOFUS w/1st & 2nd place wins

We will be taking Roofus to an English Sectional this weekend if nothing happens it is over a 5 hour drive I got word today that they are gonna let me have sat off... So I should be there... Wish me luck... This may just be the big weekend for Roofus he needs to place in the top 4 places to become a Nite Champion... Roofus has proven himself to me personally... He has treed coons in Illinois, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolinia... We hope to add more states as we travel along to these hunts... I will enter him in as many hunts as I can big or small... Thanks for all the interest that people has in Roofus and the all the kind words also... Once again thanks for everyones support... JR
