Best Line Bred "old" blooded Stud in USA

I am always on the search for true old blood dogs that mite be hidden out behind somebodys barn or sometimes like now just being hunted in plain ole open site.

"THREE M DRIFTER" is line bred on Poor Boys Chainsaw who was off of Poor Boys Sid who was a grandson of the immortal Spring Creek Radar. Dennis Mcdowell of St. Josephs Missouri own this hound and I just happened to stumble across him after my friend Eric Franks got in touch with him and was kind enough to call me and tell me about him because he knew I was a huge Spring Creek Radar and Rock fan.

Dennis has quietly been breeding these hounds along with some friends of his for probably close to 30 plus years.

I have been breeding hounds for over thirty years and a big fan of line breeding as long as your are a responsible breeder and know what dogs and how and when to breed to a particular dog.
When I saw this pedigree I was speechless. This is the best line bred dogs pedigree I have ever witnessed and I have been studying pedigrees ever since I took up coonhunting 50 years ago.

I will post Drifters pedigree and some pics and videos of him and let you decide.

Dennis is a hard working man with a more than full time job and handles a bunch of head of cattle to boot so his time is valuable.
If you are wanting to breed to one of the best bred "Radar/Rock dogs in the country, I would call him the minute your female comes in heat and head that way.

He is not kin to any of the name bred hottest thing lately dogs. He is out of country coondogs that happen to be competition winners. They win by being alone and treeing real coons. They can run a coon down and kill it or make him climb. They have mouths that you will be proud of.

I would take all these rat/trackman/mojo/skuna river hounds that you have line bred on everywhich way but up and make an outcross right now.

He has a pup or two available from a direct daughter of Dual gr. ch. Finley River Boomer and a double clover female who has a mouth like King Kong and is gorgeous with a blanket back and red headed. 2nt time cross.

If you have a female in heat and are getting on the board with a "who to breed to question".....get off the board and call Dennis and book her. Drifter is super loud and good looking with an old time spring creek Rock head on him. Dennis will drop him for you if you have any doubts.

If I had known this dog existed 4 years ago I would have bred everything I had at the time to him.

HE IS THE REAL DEAL................

There is so much old Finley river blood

in here, it is almost like cloning old Finley River Chief himself.
you guys under 40 mite not appreciate or understand this pedigree on this stud or the mom this cross is from, but it is what is behind all most every major stud dog in this country.

You cant find another dog like this in the country. It doesnt exist. Dennis was smart enough to collect drifter and his daddy so that we can enjoy these dogs for the future. But...you can breed to the live blood right now.

A wise breeder will start looking for the best female he can get his hands on and make the trip to drifter. This dog has some of the best line bred crosses that you can make on a dog. Uncles to Nieces, cousin crosses...if you can dream it they made it. And the deal is everyone who ever hunted with Sid or chainsaw will tell you they were some of the best coondogs they ever hunted with.

I have done the research and provided you with something that will help change the walker breed and get it away from the hot nosed...non-tracking ability-loose mouth walker dogs that have flooded the market and give you a balance, outstanding track hound with a huge long carrying mouth that is highly intelligent and looks good on the end of the leash.

Your job is to get that female bred to him.

Stud fee is between you and Dennis.

I have no part in this dog at all. I just happen to admire a great bred dog when I see one and felt Dennis should offer him to the public. I just wanted to help with all the leg work of putting on the board. Hope to get some better pics of him blown up. I am not the best computer man in the world on this stuff. If any of you know how to enlarge these photos, I would certainly appreciate you helping a brother out. haha

it's just a matter of time

....some are fixin' to be in south caroline. The best thing about this line of hounds......hunting with the leaves off:-)....theses are natural coontreers'....I have already seen 1 that is just "game".....treed 1st coon he ever set his eyes on. These are the characteristics of these dogs. You don't have to beg them to show interest. You don't have to beg them to hunt. It just comes natural at a very young age. Don't miss out..

You gonna load Mississippi up with some of this?:-) they will not like seeing this stuff roll up at the hunts!!! Specially with the leaves off....I had 1 directly off of chainsaw...more than I can count I have walked to his trees with other dogs that could not smell the coon and they would have that confused look. You know the 1 I'm talking about...like a possum fixing to get ran over by a car!!!!....Dennis is a nice guy to boot!!! Nice hound and a nice dude to deal with. This is old blood that has been engineered the right way!!! My hats off.

Ive hunted with drifter, his sire buzz and grand sire cooter. Drifter is a good honest strike and one nice tree dog with a locate anyone can call. Ive hunted with cooter when he was alive and he was real nice then hunted with Buzz a lot. Buzz was prob the most consistent and best walker ive ever hunted with and as far as I can tell Drifter is just like his dad. I was in a hunt when dennis was hunting drifter and I was in different cast hunting. It was a calm night and the snow was on and we were all waiting to here r dogs when someone said they could here there dog over the hill. I stopped and listened and said that was drifter way in there in different cast treed. Come to find out it was him and they were almost 2miles away. If your looking for a line of walkers that tree coons and not slicks in summer or winter u better look close at this line of hounds. If I didn't hunt English I would be hunting this line of walkers.

Man boys.....yall blew this up.....haha

I couldnt believe this dog has been hidden all these years like this.

Doug......so glad to hear yall are getting a shot of this. With what yall have to offer in this cross, it should make them dual purpose folks drool.............With yall having that spring creek radar stuff in your hounds through Rowdy, you are just adding about 10 shots or more of it right on top of already a stacked and loaded deck with yalls gyp.
what about it Cleo....You excited about this cross or what?

Adam, your name came up in several conversations as I was doing my investigation and research. I heard some real kind stuff about you. Heard you were a good dude and told it like it was.
That encouraged me even more knowing someone that had a eye for a hound had the nice things to say that you did.

Yep Eric I am going to fill North Miss. up with it. Got one gyp from down this way that belongs to a friend booked for the spring breeding season and got another one belonging to another friend I am having to do some campaining to get him to change. He has a free breeding to a major stud so if I can get him to switch, I would say thats a pretty good lick for Ole Drifter.

I know this, this is as solid a bloodline of a coondog that I have ever seen. I dont care how many world championships and trucks a dog has won, DNA and pedigree and the ability to reproduce is the final verdict on how their pups will turn out. The pedigree is solid with old foundation stock that produced every stud everyone else is breeding to. Everybodys dog pretty much goes back to Finley River chief, Spring Creek Rock, Merchants Banjo II and Houses Chief. If you go to the walker foundation website and do your homework you will find all those dogs stacked up right off this pedigree like cord wood!!!!!

I have seen some pics of Drifter just standing on the chain and for a 6 coming 7 hound he is nice looking with good legs and feet and a head to die for. man you can see that old spring creek Rock and the old Buffalo River/Finley river head on him. It is beautiful.
Like all Rock/Radar hounds, those blood red heads start turning white at 4 or 5...drifter is fading quick, but you can see that old blood red back in there.

Thanks for all the replys and comments. I am sure Dennis appreciates it. He is a real nice guy with a pretty special hound. I believe old Drifter is fixing to have a whole bunch of girlfriends real soon.

If anyone is a serious breeder and not a weekend breeder who is just breeding for money and wants to help us get our walker hounds back on track you need to get real serious and give this hound a shot.

Eric, I know you are as hard a hunter as there is and when you told me that the direct son of Chainsaw was the best coondog you ever turned loose, I knew I was on the right track. I owe you a bunch for getting me in touch with Dennis and doing all the leg work. You deserve ALL the credit for the discovery.

I am just trying to help a nice guy get some blood on the market that I really believe in.

I make no bones about it. Spring Creek Radar was the best stud dog that ever lived in my humble opinion. Drifter goes back to him so many times I cant even count them all. AND...he goes back to Spring Creek Rock, Radar's daddy even multiple more times.

Like I said, when I saw this pedigree it blew my mind. I answer questions all the time about line breeding and how to line breed etc. I have been a breeder of the same line for over 30 years and feel like I am qualified to answer those questions. There are folks that think they know how to line breed, but are line breeding on the wrong dog or line of dogs.
Drifter is line bred better than any hound I have ever seen. Period. case closed.

Give Dennis a call and get on board. Lets finally get some track dogs with some sense and balance to them back on the ground.

He mite have a pup or two for sale. If you are serious. give him a buzz. I believe these will be very valuable pups once they hit the ground.

Let's think about something here for a minute

25-30 years ago there was not many hunts won on circle points..matter of fact a UKC hunt has never been won on circle points. When people found out they could actually win money with a dog that couldn't tree coons, it had a detrimental impact on the way people started breeding. They wanted a dog that would get hooked quick and would absolutely not leave or check a tree....get struck in quick and get hooked.Dennis McDowell stayed true to what worked for him and alot of others that was fortunate enough to witness what real coondogs were all about. I know that there's tons of people that are reading this thread that understand exactly what I'm talking about and then there's the others that don't have a clue. Give this dog a chance to breed that good female that you have. You will not regret it.you will end up with balanced dogs that will naturally put their nose to work...they will not come out of the womb wanting to tree a grasshoper...they will be game...they will look to run something down and catch it...they will run tracks to catch...they will have the ability to drift out a track and try to get their mouth on something to kill it!!..they will have a nose on them that alot of you have never witnessed. If you want to win hunts by treeing live coons with alot of plus points, give this dog a shot

Hey JMART....you any kin to KMART

just kidding....I know...its hard to follow. I will try and see if I can straighten it out. It is sometimes hard to read a 6 or 7 gen pedigree even when you have the original in your hand.

4th generation. I just read it on the original.
Thats not too far back. Tell me as much as you can about him. I like doing research on hounds in a pedigree because it all matters.

that close up you get some throw back genetically every once in awhile. both in color and characteristics.

Ya that was really cool when I seen Elmo on that pedigree, I bred him 20 years ago he was by far the most natural coondogs I've ever been around, huge hound mouth you just don't hear much anymore, and his split tree pressure was unbelievable nothing could pull him! I couldn't remember what female he got bred to on that ped and was just trying to figure it all out

Good to hear.....

I have heard nothing but solid coon treeing examples for the first 4 generations from this cross. No hot nosed, track meddling, babbling, slick treeing idiots. Just go get um track driving coondogs. Thanks for the part you played. Good job.
