Just got my new issue of Fur Fish and Game. Here is their fur market report.
There is newfound enthusiam for extra heavy xxxl Northern raccoon. the best fresh skins may top in at $15-$20. But averages will be under $10 and thats less the lows and smaller sizes. Southern coat coon might see $2-$3 for larger pelts properly stretched and dried.
Hey Tar. They say a really big silvery Northern Opossum might bring $2-$3. But lesser goods are worthless. Means there should be plenty for your Championship hunt!

It's not like your baseball team is playing. You have a lot of time on your hands.

From the scores I am seeing at the major hunts if hides got high the coons are still safe unless they spotlight them. I don't even think they could tree a possum right lol.

Now I've got a question. Back in the day when I was doing quiet a bit of hide hunting anything 30 inches and over was considered an xl. Just how big does a coon have to stretch to be considered an xxxl? Caught some in Michigan and Indiana that were in mid 20"s but still just xl. A xxxl must be the size of a yearlin bear or my buyer was taking me for a ride.

I don't know how big XL, XXL and XXXL coons are either. I think its if the buyers are having a good day or not.

measure from the nose to base of tail .

XL= 27" to 29"
XXL= 29" to 32"
XXXL = 32" to 35"
XXXXL = 35" +

Fur dealers have wisened up. Many will no longer buy blue hides. This means waiting until the last week of October or the first week of November. That is typically when Michigan hides start to prime up.

Earlier forecast suggested that coons may go up, but I will believe it when I see it. There were a ton in storage.

There are literally 100's of thousands of coon pelts in storage in the US that have not gone to auction for several years now.

They say that coon are bigger up North but this is ridiculous. Just look at the size of this Maine coon my buddy''s son treed last night. I wonder how much his hide will bring.

Yes sir. I've killed many 1100 lb steers with a 22. I'd have peened that old boy right in the dome. What a thud that would have been. If I had the proper tags of course.
