Lake Huron Blueticks

As we stand on the cusp of a new year, a cross I've been waiting to see made the past 4 months might be coming soon. Karl Stacer's great start dog Molly is in heat and will be heading to Drummong Island this weekend for a date with Mike Fairchild's Slew Foot. Molly is a great cold nosed start dog on bear and coyotes. As a pup, she was a great tree dog on coon. Molly is off my old Nite Ch. Lake Huron Ormiston's Poorboy (Buzz Anderson's Buzz' Blue Buck x Gr. Nt. Ch. Ormiston's Texas Sheba) crossed on Lake Huron Scout (Joe Searles' Salamonie Blue Sam x Heff's Blue Yonder). This is a cross deep in the blood of Smokey River Diamond Jim and old Vaughn blood; all of which traces back to great cross Ed Meeks made back in the 1950s on his Warrior to Joe B. Redden's Fly, both hounds coming from Elbert Vaughn's Bluetick Farm. Molly on Slew Foot will be a great cross for anyone hunting big game or coon.

Here are some photos of old hounds I loved and hunted with in the past:

My old Nt. Ch. Lake Huron Ormiston's Poorboy

Heff's Blue Yonder (Rothwell's Blue Tom x Rothwell's Blue Misty). I owned her as Lake Huron Blue Yonder and sold her to Don Hoefferle in Wisconsin

Guy Ormiston helping old Sheba with feeding her newborn pups circa early January 1996. This is Poorboy's litter.

Here's another gyp to be bred to Yankee Slew Foot this winter, my Stormcrow female (Harry Darby's PKC ch. Nite. Ch. Tree Thumpin' Blue Lead x Guy Ormiston's Starr).

Lake Huron Stormcrow

Here's a couple pups off Crow born in April 2010. Both less than 8 months old off KDS Just Ben (Lake Huron Strange Trip x Lake Huron Blue Gertie):

Oops! Stella is the pup on the right at 6 weeks old. The pup on the left went to Rick Guy and his son Hunter in Sparta Wisconsin. She's also treeing coon. Here is Stella is at 6 months old:

Stella is owned by John Boumeester in Minnesota.

Here's Lake Huron Rainmaker True Boy at 8 months old:

Lastly, here's our last hunt on 12/26/2011:

Cam O'Mara with his Walker Rena and Topper (littermate to KDS Just Ben) and Kyle O'Mara with my Stormcrow and True Boy with 4 nice big coon.

Jim, I appreciate you and Karl choosing Slew for stud, he is definately throwing the right kind of hound, no matter what you run. There is good blood in both these females and I was impressed with both of them in the timber when you and karl were up here hunting. I paid Slew foot up for 2012, so these will be performance pups also.

Thanks Mike,
Happy New Year to you, Amanda and the boys. Let me know when you get Molly knotted with Slew. Next weekend Crow will be headed your way. Hopefully Molly will be bred and ready to come home and we can just meet and swap them out.

Had nice conversation with Lonnie Uchtman last night. It's always nice to talk with someone with his vast knowledge and experience with blueticks and breeding. Also had a good talk today with my Coast Guard hunting partner Justin Thorton. Hopefully we can get one more hunt in this winter before Justin heads off to a new posting. Still waiting on word from Fairchild Farms on when Slew and Molly are mated. I can't want to get Crow up to the island next weekend for a date with Slew Foot. Here's a nice photo of a great young female out of Nt. Ch. Lake Huron Ormiston's Poorboy (Buzz' Blue Buck x Gr. Nt. Ch. Ormiston Texas Sheba) and Nite Ch. Lake Huron Ormiston's Blue Ghost (Ormiston's True Boy IV x Gr. Nt. Ch. Ormiston Texas Sheba). Lefteye was a good one I let my cousin Jason Bartley have and he moved to Texas with her, losing her on the road to a car a few weeks before she turned 2 years old. Here's photo of Lefteye treed on a cold January night as an 18 month old:

Report from Fairchild Farms notes that Molly and Slew Foot have been well mated. Hope ol' Slew has enough left in him when Crow visited next week! Had great talk with my old mentor and friend Guy Ormiston "The Bard of the Blueticks" tonight. Great talking hounds and hunting with this great man.

Looks like Karl Stacer's Molly has knotted with Slew enough she ought to be fill full of pups! Heading north to Michigan's Emerald Isle on Monday with Crow. Hopefull she'll be full of pups in no time! I'll bring Molly home to Karl and leave Crow with her new beau for a few days. Nice talk with Jerry Morgan tonight from down near Maypearl, Texas. We talked these old Ormiston dogs to death. It wasn't until Jerry started telling a story of a hunt he was on with Guy, his uncle and some fella from up in my country that I realized he was talking about me! Don't remember too much of the hunt myself... but Jerry thought it was a good one... so that's all that matters!

It was nice talking with you the other night. Sure is strange how small this big ole world is. We had a nice hunt last night, made four trees, two dens and two coon on the limb and back at truck by 8:15. Then we spent another hour or so trying to round up pups that escaped from the dog box. Good luck with your hounds. Keep us up on how your new cross goes.

Word from the woods tonight from my buddy Cam is that Lil' Fella was treeing with his walker female tonight. Lil' Fella is out of the Ben x Crow cross. He is a mate to True Boy and Stella who photos are in this thread above.

Good luck with those Ormiston hounds and the litter you have coming Jerry. It was great talking to you. We'll talk more in the future.

The boys didn't get a photo of Lil' Fella treeing, but they did get these of him fighting the coon with their walker gyp, Rena. Not bad for the first time Lil' Fella reallly been to the woods!

Rick Guy from Sparta, Wisconsin (Go Packers!) sent me these photos of his son Hunter's Stella gyp out of Ben x Crow born 4/18/2011. Rick reports she's coming along well. It funny how the first 2 females pick out and to live both ended up named Stella:

Hey Jim, good visiting with you today, thanks for bringing crow up here and picking up molly. I will be delivering Slew Foot pups to gaylord on saturday if you can round someone up to meet me and pick crow up, it would save you a little traveling. Mike

I think Karl and I will be coming up to get Crow nest Monday, as I'm off work that day. Molly was tired out from all her romancing with Slew last week. She slept most all the way home. Made good time up and back. Molly's back home again. Thanks Mike and Amanda, had a nice time visiting. Hope to do it again soon (next Monday for sure!).

Molly resting peacefully after a week of getting chased around the breeding pen by a much younger Slew Foot. She's such a cougar!

Mike reports 3 knots in 3 days... fill her full of pups Slew! It seems Slew is walking a little slower to the stud pen every morning... Man I wish I knew the feeling! I told Mike that if I bring anymore females up soon, ol' Slew will just start humping himself at the sight of my car pulling up the drive!
