The breeder labels his dogs as "big game Kemmers"

Hahahaha! Did you ask Kenneth how many big game animals heís caught with his Kemmers?
None, Iíll answer for him! Them boys found a market for selling ďbig game KemmersĒ to men out west because the bear hunters in the east have finally figured them out. The real big game Kemmers east of the Mississippi are not produced in mass numbers and peddled by puppy mills. There still here but you wonít find them peddled on the internet.

Guess I learned the hard way.. My problem is that I assume everyone is as honest as me.

Donít feel bad, you arenít the only one. I wasnít poking fun at you just letting you know you arenít crazy when you feel like you may have been led on. Having said that, you probably know not to judge based on one dog. If you keep high standards they donít all make it. That goes with any breed. I truly feel those men are not purposefully telling you a lie, they just donít know any different because they donít understand. Most Kemmers will tree yard squirrels naturally, a high percentage of mine will when young. Thatís most ďbreedersĒ standard to breed to. Those of us who hunt know that those dogs are still a long way from finishing into real big game catching dogs. You canít convince them otherwise, they just donít know any different because how can you know what traits a big game dog needs when you donít catch big game with your dogs you are breeding.
I talked with another man a few months ago that bought a supposedly started squirrel dog from from one of these big game kemmer breeders and heís had the dog for over a year and it has yet to tree a wild squirrel. Tree the crap out of a bird feeder squirrel but take it to the woods and heís just a great companion. These ďbreedersĒ have just what you need, no matter what you are looking for!
