Sticking Trees

What's your experience on dogs that aren't sticking trees ever making stay put tree dogs? I have a 16 months old dog that can absolutely tree a coon with style but sometimes will only tree for 7 to 15 minutes. What's your advice and will he make a stay put tree dog? Thanks for your input.

Tom you got to get them tired. When they are fresh like any young person their attention span is short. Road him some before you go hunting then as he gets older he will change.

If he's fresh and wanting to bust out and keep going what yadkintar said should help alot.

I had one once that, as a pup, would tree for several minutes and if I didnt get there she would come find me. I fixed her by standing about as far off as my light would hit her, and throwing it on every time she shut up. I really think she got excited about treeing a coon, but figured out after a few minutes that nobody was there. Once she figured out that I was usually around out there somewhere, she was fine.
