Heat Cycles

I have a young female that came in heat at one year, then at about nine and a half months later and now it's been over a year. Was wondering if anyone else ever had one and if something might be wrong with her?

First two thoughts that come to mind are thyroid problems and pea based food.
Thyroid issues are a leading cause of irregular heat cycles or reproductive issues, and seem to be on the rise.
But also pea/lentil based food will cause reproductive issues. When a female is on such food, their heat cycles are very irregular and in a lot of cases they don't come in at all. And when they do, there's a high rate of them not catching if bred.

My female didn't come in heat for almost two years and I was feeding Purina. I switched feed last spring, she's in the kennel right now with a fat belly three weeks from having pups.

Yes thyroid is a commn cause but example my female had not cycled in 5 years took her for blood thyroid was 1.5 I think what they call low normal she did not show any signs of hypothyroidism anyway vet I'm sure it's thyroid had the fe,all on soloxxine and dr Roy's extra vitamins once a day on the vitamins anyway 60 days she cycled bred her on day 22 of her heat cycle she had 9 pups after Whelping took her off everything , back to old self she went two years again wothout any cycle and on no meds well I wouldassume her thyroid would return to previous levels if not lower due to being on meds.anyway in doing research about the foods so I switcched foods at beginning of summer to what appears to be a pretty good lower priced food well same time other females cycled she cycles with them and had a great cycle ,she had been on no meds vitamins anything for 2 years but food change! Was enougto convince me along with results of others that there is more to thyroid problems then just dna , good luck it doesn't cost anything to try a differnt food, I asked the vet about his prior evaluator and he didn't have an answer , I don't know but I think there a way more that contributed then what most think

I’ve heard grain free makes it worse. I’ve heard dogs need more iodine, that is why they aren’t coming in heat. I’ve heard this, I’ve heard that.

IMO there is something different about the food we feed. I think is it something that we think is better but is actually worse. Years ago people feed all sorts of cheap feed and dogs came in twice a year. There is something we are doing wrong with quality feed.

Kenneth I agree 100% with your opinion. Dog food companies are trying so hard to outdo all the others that they are putting dogs in danger. Grain free imo is a joke. I don't want soy in my feed but I've yet to see a dog that didn't like corn. Does it make them hot in the summer? Sure does. Running around in the woods in the summer makes me hot too. Throw a partially eaten corn on the cob to your dog and watch it eat it. Most likely the cob too. And don't worry about it eating grass too. Sure would like to see a list of the land dwelling mammals that don't eat grass. You might be surprised at how well an ole hound dog will do thats fed corn bread with a little bacon grease poured in.

I eat two fudge cycles and a Klondyke bar before I go hunting and I still get hot. When it's 90 degrees at dark it doesn't matter what you or your dog eats.

Corn don't hurt them what you think we fed them in those 3 hr hunts !! Last night at midnight I was burning up and we were just listening to the dogs imagine what they felt like it's just hot no matter what you eat.

Billy George- She is out of Smokey and her mother was out of Third Fork Boone and a Duelin Dan X Fox River Ruby female. I’m liking Izzy a lot. One of the best I’ve ever hunted for sure.
