Breeding question

I have a nice female directly off of Reggie who I would like to get pups off. She’s bluetick and I was wondering what yalls experience was with getting tricolored pups off a bluetick bitch? I guess my question is, is the bluetick a dominant gene?

Your bitch is a blue tick; therefore, the gene for blue tick is dominant in your female. Google Punnett Squares it will be a good foundation for you around genetics.

I am quite familiar with genetics thank you. If the color allele for the bluetick coloring is recessive it would take two recessive alleles for it to give the pups the color if it’s dominant it takes one. I don’t think anyone has mapped the genome of a beagle so I’m wondering what people have experienced. Does the bluetick typically carry over in a litter regardless of the males color pattern? You could draw plenty of different Punnett squares but until you knew for a fact what chromosome the gene for color is you wouldn’t have an answer. Not to mention if the gene code for bluetick was located on a second chromosome then it’s a different ball game all together.

Just wondering really breeding for better beagles. Takes tomsome fellas that breed regularly and usually whatever the sire is, is usually what the pups turn out like with exceptions of course. Gonna be interesting just waiting for her to come in and gonna breed her to a tricolored old gay breeding male
