EVERY dog food company has had recalls unless they are so new they haven't had time to.

Yes PURINA has had recalls for fungus.

Diamond has had recalls.

These others too.

I personally like Diamond Naturals or Victor, and at the present time am feeding Victor because they have Iodine in their feed.

I've seen several news stories about no grain dog foods causing congestive heart failure, especially ones that the first ingredients are potatoes or peas.

Yes, just feed less. It can make one over weight. The best vet I've ever known told me years ago. Feed regular dog chow to your dog. He was right.

😂, Yadkinriver. A Pro once said, "Even if you're not a pro and know it. Just pretend you are and believe it. Imagine that, I like dreaming. Especially when its the dog thats the pro and I'm just along for the ride, 😂.

Just took sick dog to vet, 2 weeks ago. Vet said whats making most dogs sick he sees today is beef and pork meat and bone meal, first ingredients listed. All theme hormones are in tissues and bones. He repeated same as 30 years ago. Feed purina dog chow with good ole fattening 🌽 in it.

Any dog food produced by ANF is also being recalled, high Vitamin D... Calling serious renal issues.

He ain't wrong! He's the best vet within a 💯 miles of here and all the other vets know it too. Everyone that goes to him knows it too. He's highly sought after because of his knowledge and cost, less than half what these others charge. He's forgot more than most of them just think they know. As far as shiny coat, I can give one 2 spoons out of a dollar can of mackrel from $ tree 2 times a week, and last for 3 weeks. Their already fat from eating that sorry dog chow. Should be real lean mean hunting machines since their so malnourished and hunted so hard.

I switched from Purina to Victory, then Ruby didn't come in heat do I switched bag to Purina Smart One. My vet said Purina is a good food, too. Ruby came in heat the next month (which was 3 months late). Then I saw Iams on sale, thought maybe the dogs would appreciate something different (even I get different ice cream flavors). Changed over slowly, half way through the 2nd bag the dogs were throwing up...back to Purina, But then this summer, I saw Elevate on sale, ckd it out.....a 4* feed. Bought a bag of Turkey, duck, etc... Dogs loved it, next time, they had pork, beef and lamb, our terrier x ended up looking like a walking hot spot and Dandy was covered In hives before the bag was half gone. Staying with Purina, may put sprinkles on it to give them a little treat.

Not a thing wrong with Purina to my knowledge.

I was just pointing out if you were using a recall as an excuse to bash a food/company or to switch that all of them have had recalls.

I too feed purina dog chow to my 4 dogs and have been doing so for many years. I add several extras to their feed. Not because I must but because I have little confidence in any prepared dog feed. Think about it, how good can it be when it's suppose to be complete food, in a sack that can be on the shelf for weeks, in my garage for a month and not spoil. I don't know of any complete human food that can do that unless it's been especially preserved, vacuum sealed, dehydrated and all that. , How long can a human be health if they only ate MRE(s)? But it's all we have that is affordable so I just feed a little of it and supplement it with good stuff that I'm willing to eat.

Food

As they get older, you have to watch what you feed them that you eat also. Dog chow is pretty good, dog feed.

What do vets know about dog food?

I agree with what you have said. Well stated too. Wanted to add that I haven't found one vet that I would listen to when concerning nutrition. They barely touch on the subject while in school, and certain dog food companies will donate textbooks to vet schools, with hopes that the future veterinarians will remember where the books and stuff came from, and give a future endorsement.
I feed Orijen and mix some Sojos Complete, with it, to help keep the cost down, by using less of the kibble(Orijen). When mixed with hot water, it sure looks like a tasty gravy/paste (LOL). The dogs keep coming back to the empty bowl trying to find the last morsel. I haven't checked lately, but all this good eating would amount to about 4 dollars a day tops, per hound. (Maybe 3 and change?) I think it is worth it, with hopes that my dogs overall health including bones and joints, eyes and hearing, will keep them treeing past ten years of age. All my opinion...no offending anyone.

When I watched my dog die of old age I kept wondering what I could have done to prolong her life. The only thing I could do was improve what they eat and reduce unhealthy additives. I give good stuff to each one through out the week, Things like sardines, eggs, fruit, sweet potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, green beans, melon, bananas. Of course I have to cut back on the dog chow to keep the calories down.
