Here in Northern New England the moose get hammered by ticks. Some that are heavily afflicted die in the cold winter months due to constant rubbing of their bodies on trees which rubs off their winter hair and exposes them more to the cold. Fish and Game Depts. in both NH and VT drastically cut the number of moose that could be harvested for a couple seasons because so many died in the winter due to the effects of the tick infestations.
