Feeder bucket question

Went to the state hunt this weekend and hunted nothing but feeders. Dog stood on his head for the most part. Seems like he can't pick out a good track and drive it. Has to much nose for it. Don't hunt him on feeders at home and he looks like a million bucks. Will he ever get better about feeders or just take my lumps and go on in these hunts? He's 3 and nitech. Trees wild coons at home continuously. Thanks!

There is a ball of coon scent around the bucket and dogs must learn to move out to pickup a track. Hunt him on a feeder occasionally and he will learn how to.

Feeder bucket

We're thinking along the same lines. I'd rather tree em in the wild myself. But if that's how the hunts are going to be, guess I better fall in line. Thank you!

Buckets can be useful in some circumstances, but they're not much fun to hunt off of. I wouldn't want to do it all the time. I like to hear a dog find a track and work it. Must of the time bucket coon tree quick and usually don't give a good run to listen too. JMO

I'm with you here. I like to make em work, but I'm learning I better get him some experience with feeders. For comp purposes

Agree. Lot of scent at bucket. Buckets will have lot of dogs standing on their heads. Once they learn to take one track and go its over very quick. Another thing there's usually two or three up within 100 yards of bucket.
