Grand American Bench Show Judges have been announced.
Mary Bergbauer - Youth Spotlight Judge for Saturday
Mary Bergbauer, 50, currently reside in Portland, Indiana. I am married to Rodney Bergbauer, and the two of us have our 7th grandchild on the way!
I got started in coonhounds when my husband Rodney took me to my first Autumn Oaks in 2009. I was immediately hooked and wanted a redbone puppy. I have owned and bred Redbones for around 12 years now. I have done my fair share of winning in both bench shows and the conformation ring. My first show dog Snap was definitely my heart dog and made me fall in love with the Redbone breed. I have won at both state and national levels including placing at the World, Autumn Oaks and Winter Classic where Snap was awarded Top 10 Redbone 2 years in a row as well as being awarded the Purina Breed Winner in 2015. I have continued to show and tinker with other breeds throughout the years but redbones will always have my heart.
I have been a Bench Show Judge for about 6 years. I have judged a fair number of Youth events, RQEs, St Judes, and other various events.
Rodney Bergbauer - Friday Judge
Rodney Bergbauer, currently resides in Portland, Indiana and is married to Mary Bergbauer.
I got started in coonhounds when I was 16 and bought my first redbone. I have dabbled in every breed of coonhounds but Walkers and Redbones have been my favorite. Mary and I have owned and bred Redbones for around 12 years now. I have won at both state and national levels.
I have been a Bench Show Judge for over 20 years. I have judged RQEs, Sectionals, St Judes, BBOA, Bluetick Days, English Days and State shows plus other various events.
Dr. David Birdsall - Saturday Judge
“Doc”, as he is generally known, practiced Veterinary medicine for about 50 years and has been coonhunting since 1965. He began raising and showing registered Black and Tans in 1982.
His judging assignments include Autumn Oaks (3 times), the UKC world (3 times), Winter Classic, and the grand American. He also has judged Black and Tan Days and many state shows numerous times.
He has been fortunate to raise some nice Black and Tans and obtain the National wins he has gotten. Because of Covid in 2020 he missed Autumn Oaks for the first time in 37 years.
Some of his fondest memories are teaching conformation with Wayne Cavanaugh and Dr. Jim Edwards.
Thank you to the owners and handlers for allowing me to judge your fine animals, and for the South Carolina coon hunters for asking me.
