Have you tried putting said dog and a possum in a barrel and sending it over Niagara Falls?

tried all of the above!

Years ago I had 2 littermate sisters, raised them together, hunted them togetherThey got bad on possums.Tried about everything mentioned, including split possum down the middle, pulling over their head. The best remedy I found was ignoring them as a couple have suggested, walk on by and lightly shock.

Break them off

The tracks. I have had best luck busting them with shocking collar on track. Get possum lay a track just like training him to run one. And set him up.
Hunt with a broke dog after that if he runs one other dog won’t get him again.
Good luck I rather have one run anything but possum hardest to break off of.

Possum dogs

Back in my younger days, it was acceptable behavior for all of our dogs to tree possums, there were not many coons in these parts. The competition hunts made possum treeing a no no and now no one wants their dogs to tree possums. Truth be told, a dog sound just as good treeing on a possum as they do treeing on a coon, have not seen a real good possum dog in years. Some of you folks that get a real good one that you can not break from treeing possums, pm me I just might buy a real good possum dog. Dave

Possum dogs

They would be a lot of fun. Take a bunch of kids over in forest and tree about 10 possums in a hour or two they would be hooked on them treedogs. Coon and possum worth about the same $$ guess we should not care. Lol.

Possum

Don't say a word to him go to tree turn light off. Take a can of Pepper spray 10% (police grade) and stand behind dog treeing and spray the pepper spray where it falls down into his face and mouth. Try not to let him know you are spraying him if possible. He will be done hunting for the night but this will cure him eventually...make sure no one is down wind.

chill out

Many years ago i had two littermate females that were bad on possums.I tried pretty much everything thats been mentioned including bad beatings.I managed to get one almost broke and the other one slowed down. I finally came to the belief that rough handling and beatings were not the answer.I do believe every time you get severe with a hound you take something out of them that cant be replaced. As Tar and someone else mentioned the best thing i have found is,(if their obedience trained)just tell them no and walk on,do nothing at the tree.Again, if trained a light shock or tone works best for me.
