Hello everybody I am new to the Forum and looking for some insight and advice about possibly adding a black mouth cur to the family. Just a little background I live on 150 acres have about 30 head of cattle and I hunt about 40 acres and have a stock pond. I hunt anything from quail to duck, squirrel to deer. I've always been partial to owning a beefier heavier-set dog, ive had German rotts in the past and a lab for hunting.

I've been researching a good all-around dog because I can't deal with losing rotts to they're bad health issues. I love the look, build and what ive read about the breed. I read of there being 4 main bloodlines, so the question I have is which bloodlines of blackmouth cur are more bred to do what? What are the height, weight and muscle build between the different lines?

I don't know much about the other three lines, but I would recommend something from the LAdner lines. It doesn't necessarily have to come from Mr. Ladner, but something with his or his father's bloodlines will probably have a good chance of working out for you. My male (and the other few Ladner males) I've seen are a little over knee high and are pretty muscled up. I'd say mine is 50 lbs or so in shape. He's probably pushing 60 right now after laying around this summer. I think their bodies look a lot like an APBT...athletic and muscular. FWIW-mine doesn't like the heat and runs pretty hot when we start in the fall. I've heard that a lot of them are like that.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't read anything about not doing the best in the heat. Yeah I agree with there build, that's what got me looking. More athletic than a rott with better instinct for farm and hunting. I've read that they can hit 90lb so im definetly wanting one out of the bloodline that are bred that big. There is a breeder that uses the ladner line about 60 miles from me and they seem to be 65ish and well built, and they use theres for small game hunting.

Okay thank you, depending which bloodline I choose I would really consider running up there. But does anyone know the different characteristics of each line?
