Bench show question

Can a dog have a slight underbite? At what point is the underbite a dq? Is there a pic diagram for where a underbite or overbite is a dq?

first look up the breed standards.

it could say :

A scissors bite is preferred; an even bite is acceptable.

Disqualifications: Undershot or overshot.

which states what is acceptable.

That’s very bland, when it says a gap between an undershot or overshot what determines a gap?

A gap is a gap. It doesn't say big gap or little gap. I guess every bench show judge knows what an overbite, underbite or a gap is. Everything about a bench show is based on the opinion of the judge. Bench shows are not exact. What is the best coloring for any breed? How much muscle tone is best? How straight is straight? How many degrees is the best angle? Exactly how long in inches should an ear be? The breed standards are just a "standard". It is up to the bench show judge to "judge" them.

page 44 UKC rulebook

24. Dogs will be disqualified if overshot or undershot.
Undershot: The front teeth (incisors) of the lower jaw
overlapping or projecting beyond the front teeth of the
upper jaw when the mouth is closed. Overshot: The incisors
of the upper jaw projecting beyond the incisors of the lower
jaw, thus resulting in a space between the respective inner and outer surfaces.

there is nothing that mentions "reverse scissor" because there is no such thing.

also, look at the alignment of the canine teeth. if they are not set correctly, there is an issue with the jaw.

I would say—

If it’s not underweight the teeth are working just fine
