Last Night's Hunt

It was a long rough night but a flat joy to have may dad along for the hunt... Acording to the pedometer we walked 6.961 miles... We had nearly a full moon and heavy winds... We treed within mins of turning loose.. However weren't able to see the coon to many leaves... On the 2nd tree we treed in a den... Here is a video from last nights hunt... Enjoy, JR

'PR' PLAIN ENGLISH'S LAKELAND BLU

Blu will be 7 months old 12/23/11 and he already weights 67.4lbs.. I think he is gonna make a big one...

I hunted Blu last night on bad night. It was a full moon and a hard heavy frost. I tried out my new camera which didn't turn out well naturally I forgot to take my good one. I did manage to get a short clip of Blu treeing on my smart phone. I was very proud of him. I hunted him with Nite Champion Hard Wood Pepper and his half brother Chopper. Not to take away from any but Blu was the BIG dog last night at only SEVEN months old and his sixth trip to the woods. And this was the first time since the 2nd week of October 2011. If he continues to progress he is looking like becoming one heck of a tree dog with a great nose and tracking abilities and HUGE mouth. I turned loose at midnight and made it hope at 5:30 this am. All the excitement of sharring my video would allow me to sleep. I got up at 8:30 am to only find disappoint in my video results. We made 5 trees all in dens. This paticular tree here was the best. I will try to redo this video asap but I couldn't wait to share... Thanks JR

Had a good hunt with Blu 1/24/12

I am having problems uploading my pics and videos. On the last chase it lasted for nearly an hour Through the back waters of a beaver dam and trr tops were they had been logging. Blu got ahead of NtCh Hard Wood Pepper in all that mess and absoutely blew to top out of the tree and yes he treed first @ only 8 months old he is looking very good. We shoot it out to him and he went nuts over it. It felt good to put fur in his mouth for the first time... Let me tell ya he is Loud they treed up in a holler and he was flat ROARING!!!

Had a good hunt last night made two drops treed two on the outside. Blu done ok. On second drop chase was a long one they went almost out of hearing to where we could barley hear them treed took us over an hour to get them Blu was still there treeing. Put more fur in his mouth that will probably be the last one for a while. He has now had three shot out to him I don't want to spoil him. I am one not to feed my hounds alot of coons.. They were moving good it was damp kinda warm night just a little to windy at times. Blu just turned 8 Months old 4 days ago. He sure is showing great potential but I don't want to burn him out either. Last night he was little bit tighter on the ground then before. But when they fell treed last night he drowned out Pepper. If it hadn't been for him on the last drop we wouldn't have been able to hear Pepper. Blu also has a beautiful huge bawl mouth with one heck of a dying locate.

We had another nice hunt last night the ground was frozen witha heavy frost. We treed one right off the bat on the outside. We ended with up two in a hole one on the outside four in dens. Blu done very good on track treed good until we would get in there close then start milling. He also was doing some face barking last night as well. I tied him back when I would get there I know he is just a pup but that kinda bothers me.. He did get first tree on one of them. I am still having problems uploading videos. I may halfta take my computer to the shop.

We are using Nite Ch Hard Wood Pepper as our pup trainer she has really done well the last few times out. She is very easy to handle and is good about staying out of trouble. I really feel that Blu could strike and tree his own coon by his actions. I have seen him trail ahead of Pepper but Pepper gets the strike ahead of him. He has had first tree at least three times that I know of. I do understand that it is way to early to tell alot about him but he shows no puppy actions. He don't want to play around etc he goes hunting. I love most of his actions he hunts with his head up and nose in the air however the last night out he slacked a little bit at the tree after we got there. I love his mouth he is unbelievably LOUD we are very proud of him. I may just be able to write myself a check. I have been training me a handler maybe to handle him in some hunts so I can try to finish Roofus. This guy is my 25 year old step son and he is loving it. We have been hunting like were are in a nite hunt using a scorecard. So I may end up writing him a check. So wish us luck and just maybe we can get Roofus finished to grand and with some more time in the woods maybe when can enter Blu in some hunts as well. I don't want to burn Blu out by no means in fact he will probably not get another coon until the end of kill season. We are planning on Coyote hunting this evening. Its off to a beautiful day with temps to reach the low 60's today.
