BMC in cold weather

Are BMC particularily sensitive to cold weather? I have a Ladner bred BMC pup 5 months old and about 40 lbs. He sleeps in the house at night and if the temp in the room is below 60 he shivers. In the morning he shivers until the temp gets up to 67-68. If he's out in the woods running around he's fine. Other than that he's a fantastic pup.

He's probably gotten a little bit used to the warm house. I have a 3 month old pup that does fine outside and we've had some days in the teens so far. My adult male likes the cold a lot better than the heat. I'm sure your dog will be fine. You might try to fatten him up a little bit. That never hurts in the winter time.

Most dogs have a fine undercoat which helps keep them warm in the winter months...just be sure he has an undercoat because most BMC’s are pretty short coated to begin with and without an undercoat he could freeze to death if left out in the cold weather...

Now that he's bigger and carrying more bulk the shivering seems to have stopped. Maybe it just took him some time to adjust. We're at 6000 feet, maybe that had something to do with it also.

Glad to hear he's doing better.
