What age do you start to train a Mt cur to hunt

I have a Mt cur from he was born in July he is now almost 2 1/2 month old and I was wondering when to start teaching him to hunt. I have never owned a hunting dog and need all the advice anyone has Thanks

Depends allot on the breeding. Get him used to leading, coming to ya, loading up etc and walk him in the woods whenever you can. 4- 5 months old hopefully he will be starting

He is a thunder sport (dad) kemps last chance (mom) He seem to be interested when we go out in the back yard we have a lot of squirrels but never seems to find anything

Keep your chin up , he's really young! I think they feed off your attitude. Some won't start till 1-2 years but hopefully your close.allen Franklin could give you better advise , he owned sport

I'd call Allen Franklin. Or who you bought him from. He likes to talk dogs that dog will probably be very hyper and intelligent... As soon as you think he can physically handle walking through the woods with you you should take him. Be sure to help him across creeks and over fences and such. I have a dog out of thundersport Cain and treed his first squirrel at 5 months. Good luck.

I started taking mine out at 10 weeks old. I got him at 9 weeks old. I let the dog depict what level of "training" we needed to be at.

I love a pup to run a deer , cur at least, they learn a ton and it's an easy fix if needed. They usually stop after a few races
