Signing Dogs Up question

At a local hunt last night. Deadline was 7pm. Does Handler and dog have to be on the grounds to sign him up? Or can a handler call in have somebody to sign his dog up. If so how long do you give the dog and handler to get to the club? In this incident they did not let him sign up because he was not there before the deadline.

You can have someone else sign up and pay the entry before deadline. Needs to be there before drawout and the cast leaves the grounds to keep cast together.

No do not need to be there. there is no rule . cast can wait if they want or say sratch and leave. most times in summer cast sits around anyway if deadline is before dark and huntin close.it is all up to cast what they decide. bunch guys think they give hour or scratch. but no such rule

Deadline is exactly what it states on both ends of the hunt.
Someone can sign up and pay an entry for someone else without them being present. After casts are drawn and called, other cast members have no requirement to wait on someone to show.

They do in a double header late round. You can pay before you leave and if your not back they draw the cast out and have to wait a reasonable amount of time. Dec 2018 coonhound advisory I believe.

Who decides what a "reasonable amount of time" is?

If you got a job the bossman gives you a schedule you are not on time you get docked time you do it enough somebody else gets your job and you don’t eat. I was poor I always was an hour early to every job I ever had. If I wanted to hunt in a hunt I was always there an hour before draw but that’s just me.

I agree 100%. Being consistently late is disrespectful to those that are on time

I sure wouldn’t want to set at the club an hour after draw waiting for sombody to show up. Your not there at draw you shouldn’t get to hunt.

Maybe the MOH, but not UKC. UKC was not at that event.

I know for sure it wasn't me to say that because I've said it a 1,000 times........ THE ONE-HOUR DELAY OF CAST DOES NOT APPLY ANYWHERE OTHER THEN DURING THE HUNT AFTER TIME HAS BEEN CALLED IN THE HUNT that applies as a time period that all dogs must be gathered up and back with the cast to carry on.

Anytime the cast waits on a handler, they are only doing so out of courtesy. The best advice to give is; be there on time when your cast is ready to go or you may not get to hunt. That simple.

It's also been said and published, if a dog is entered as Conditional by an individual entering the dog for their friend that may be running a few minutes late; the friend MUST be there when his cast is called or the dog is scratched. Handler courtesy should not even be considered.
