Rules question

Okay got a good one for ya, plus it happened. CH Dogs are cut loose and struck in. Nothing that happened before matters. A struck in dog comes back in. Packing a recently, still warm and bleeding, with a cluck or two left in it, dead chicken. Scratched or not under champion rules?

Tricky one is a chicken a bird? Is a chicken livestock?
Rules say a bird is not considered off game but rules say your scratched for molesting live stock.

Considered livestock by whom? No cattle rancher would call a chicken "livestock".
Was the chicken domesticated or a game chicken?

I guess they could be considered livestock if the family who was raising them owned a Chinese restaurant 👍

Most all towns in my area (ohio) lump chickens into the livestock category not allowing them in towns.

My point was you shouldn't need a rule too scratch a chicken killing dog. Common sense says W/d him and correct him.

I whole heartily agree with you, it's the concept of chickens being livestock that is INCORRECT. Chickens, ducks, geese, etc are poultry, they are not animals. Dave

By the first definition, it's livestock (eggs). Scratch him/her. Personally, if it was mine; would not have been a question.

A short story with a question at the end...
A few years ago Dalton bought 100+ chickens and all was well for quite awhile. He built a coop out of an old shed on his property with nesting boxes and a fenced chicken pen off of it. The chicken pen was opened some days to let them free range in the yard to eat bugs and a keep any ticks in check in the evening they would go into the coop. All of a sudden the chickens started going into the woods behind his house to roost at night and basically his domestic chickens became wild. The survivors from the flock have eventually made their way onto a neighbor's property and roost in a barn.
So... if a dog trees on a tree that happens to also have a chicken in it is it now just a bird? If it was a turkey or other bird we know per the rules you score the tree as if it were not there, plus for coon, minus for slick and circle for a tree with a place of refuge.
