1000 pups

Tonight in the s.s in PKC the pedigrees are listed for the finals the pup numbers on some of the stud dogs are staggering do you think we will ever see another stud hit the 1000 pup mark or higher again

There will be one here and there but overall they will be a more even variety. With the development of the internet there is something for everyone not just a handful of glossy ads to choose from and the story lines that went with them. Free advertising for all changed the stud dog world on it's head from the old days. Also, the ability to see in real time who's winning what and which of those is producing.

Most will never be able to compete with the numbers of yesterday and most wouldn't even want the trouble of it. There is no more winning a big hunt or making a GRNITE running a fancy ad and wahala you've got a stud dog and a yard ornament that wasn't hunted much again. It's went the same place as people's opinions on brood females, to the back of the line to those in the winners circle who's pups are there too.
I've made the recommendation several times on this side of the pond that once a year they need an actual % percentage overall list instead of by the numbers of finished dogs, the current list is percentage the historical is number of.
I have one who is laying on my porch as I type this (a spot he earned) that is at right at 30% he will never be recognized under current standards to make the historical list. When we quit breeding him he was number 1 on the current reproducers list and higher than any breed on it at over 20%. There are many others than him who not only did their part and but did it in a changing world.
I think many others would enjoy seeing this list of some of maybe the little know dogs who helped their breed for the better weren't just bred for $ and the numbers it produced.
